Ado (Lagos Oba)

Oba Ado who reigned from 1630-1669 was the first Oba of Lagos. He was son of Ashipa, whom the Oba of Benin rewarded with title of Head of War Chief and Governor of Iddo Island. Ado's son, Gabaro was the second Oba of Lagos.

Ado collected yearly tributes from his subjects which in turn were remitted to the Oba of Benin as tribute.

Legacy

Ado (bishop)

Ado or Adon of Vienne (Latin: Ado or Adonis Viennensis; d. 16 December 874), was archbishop of Vienne in Lotharingia from 850 until his death. He belonged to a prominent Frankish family and spent much his early adulthood in Italy. Several of his letters are extant and reveal their writer as an energetic man of wide sympathies and considerable influence. Ado's principal works are a Martyrologium, and a chronicle, Chronicon sive Breviarium chronicorum de sex mundi aetatibus de Adamo usque ad annum 869.

Ado's chronicle is based on that of Bede, with which he combines extracts from the ordinary sources, forming the whole into a consecutive narrative founded on the conception of the unity of the Roman Empire, which he traces in the succession of the emperors, Charlemagne and his heirs following immediately after Constantine VI and Irene. "It is," says Wattenbach, "history from the point of view of authority and preconceived opinion, which exclude any independent judgment of events."

Anders is a name in Scandinavian languages and Fering North Frisian, the equivalent of the Greek Andreas ("manly") and the English Andrew.

In Sweden, Anders has been one of the most common names for many centuries. According to Statistics Sweden, as of December 31, 2002, it ranks 4th among the male names. The great frequency of this name at the point in time (around 1900) when patronymics were converted into family names is the reason why 1 out of every 30 Swedes today are called Andersson.

The name day of Anders in the Scandinavian calendar is November 30, and in the old peasant superstition that day was important for determining what the Christmas weather would be. If it was very cold on November 30, there would be much sleet on Christmas (and vice versa).

In Denmark (but not in Norway or Sweden), Donald Duck's name is Anders And.

The Fering name Anders may have been borrowed from the Danish version. The equivalent of Anders in Basque is Ander, which is also a very common name.

WPB Anders

The WPB Anders (Polish: Wielozadaniowa Platforma Bojowa Anders i.e. Anders Multirole Combat Platform) is a family of medium, tracked combat vehicles. The vehicle was designed by OBRUM ( Polish: Ośrodek Badawczo-Rozwojowy Urządzeń Mechanicznych – Research and Development Centre for Mechanical Appliances) part of the Bumar Group. It is named after Władysław Anders, a general of the Polish Army during World War II and later a member of the Polish government-in-exile.

History

The vehicle was designed to replace the Polish Army's remaining inventory of obsolete BMP-1 fighting vehicles, the first prototype being publicly shown in 2010, at the MSPO Kielce defense industry exhibition. During its first presentation, the vehicle was shown in its fire support configuration (Polish: wóz wsparcia ogniowego), armed with a 120mm tank gun. The media referred to this vehicle as a "light tank". Later, the same vehicle was shown configured as an infantry fighting vehicle (Polish: bojowy wóz piechoty) with a KTO Rosomak Hitfist-30P turret. A more advanced IFV prototype is expected to be shown at the 2011 MSPO Kielce exhibition. Further variants, such as command and control, medical evacuation, combat-engineering and self-propelled anti-aircraft gun are also planned.
