Amy Williams

Amy Joy Williams MBE (born 29 September 1982) is an English former skeleton racer and Olympic gold medallist.

Originally a runner, she began training in skeleton after trying the sport on a push-start track at the University of Bath. Although unable to qualify for the 2006 Winter Olympics, she was a member of her nation's team four years later at the 2010 Games, and won a gold medal, becoming the first British individual gold medallist at a Winter Olympics for 30 years and the only British medallist of those specific Olympics.

Early life and education

Williams was born in Cambridge and brought up in Bath, being educated at Hayesfield School Technology College, Beechen Cliff School and the University of Bath.

Her father, Ian Williams, is a professor of Chemistry at the University of Bath, and her mother, Janet Williams, is a former midwife. Williams has a twin sister and an older brother.

Career

Williams was originally a 400m runner but she was unable to qualify for the national athletics team. She began competing in skeleton in 2002 after trying out at a push-start track at the University of Bath. She described her first experience on a skeleton track as exhilarating and terrifying, but she nonetheless enjoyed it and began training in skeleton.

Amy Williams (rugby union)

Amy Williams (b. December 15, 1986) is a female rugby union player. She represented New Zealand and Hawke's Bay. She was in the squad that won the 2006 Women's Rugby World Cup.

In 2004 Williams played touch rugby for New Zealand's under 19 team.

Amy Reeve Williams Fielding was a female tennis player from the United States who played in the last decade of the 19th century and the first decade of the 20th century.

She was married to Mantle Fielding; they had two children, Richard M. and Frances. After Fielding's death in 1941 she remarried to John Duncan Spaeth in 1942.

Amy Williams (Neighbours)

Amy Williams (also Robinson) is a fictional character from the Australian soap opera Neighbours, played by Zoe Cramond. She made her first screen appearance on 25 May 1988. The character was originally played by child actress Nicolette Minster, while Sheridan Compagnino took over the role for Amy's reappearance in 1992. In May 2015, it was announced Amy would be returning to Neighbours and Cramond was cast in the role. She made her first screen appearance as Amy on 2 June.

Amy initial storylines focused on meeting and getting to know her father Paul Robinson (Stefan Dennis) and his family. Following her return in 2015, Amy is portrayed as being straightforward, opinionated, complex and independent. She is a qualified carpenter and Cramond hoped Amy would be a good role model for female viewers who wanted a similar occupation. Amy is a single mother to her 9-year-old son and Paul's first grandchild Jimmy (Darcy Tadich). Amy struggles to reconcile with her father and Cramond said Amy had a lot of pain to deal with.
