The Secret Storm

The Secret Storm is a soap opera which the CBS television network transmitted from February 1, 1954, to February 8, 1974. It was created by Roy Winsor, who also created the long-running soap operas Search for Tomorrow and Love of Life. Gloria Monty, of General Hospital fame, was a longtime director of the series. Like most CBS soap operas of the time, such as Guiding Light and As the World Turns, The Secret Storm was broadcast live, and later taped, in New York at the CBS Broadcast Center on West 52nd Street.

Plot

The story follows the Ames family, a prominent clan in the fictional Northeastern town of Woodbridge (eventually identified as being located in New York). The Ames family initially consisted of Peter, his wife Ellen, and their three children: Susan, Jerry, and Amy. However, Ellen was killed in the first episode and subsequent stories focused on Peter raising his three children. Lending a hand, however dubiously, was Peter's sister-in-law, also his former fiancée, Pauline Rysdale (Haila Stoddard).

Plot

Amy Medford (Jenny Agutter) is a dutiful housewife of the early 1900s. But when her husband Elliot (Chris Robinson) objects to a wife with a career, Amy leaves her husband and comfortable lifestyle. She goes on to devote her life to teaching sight-and-hearing-impaired students at a tradition-bound special school. Amy teaches the impaired students how to speak, most of the students have never heard their own name. Amy's students take on a team of "normal" kids at a football game.

Amy (2015 film)

Amy (promoted as Amy: The Girl Behind the Name) is a 2015 British documentary film that depicts the life and death of British singer-songwriter Amy Winehouse, directed by Asif Kapadia. Produced by Krishwerkz Entertainment, On The Corner Films, Playmaker Films, and Universal Music, the film is distributed by the Altitude Film Distribution and associated with Film 4. The film was released theatrically on 3 July 2015 in the United Kingdom and in the United States, before being released worldwide on 10 July. The film depicts Winehouse's life largely from the standpoint of her struggle with substance abuse problems both before and after her career began to blossom, and which eventually caused her premature death.

In February 2015, a teaser trailer based on the life of Winehouse debuted at the pre-Grammy event in the build-up to the 2015 Grammy Awards, and it was announced that the documentary entitled simply as Amy would be released in cinemas later in summer 2015, according to David Joseph, CEO of Universal Music UK. He further stated: "About two years ago we decided to make a movie about her—her career and her life. It's a very complicated and tender movie. It tackles lots of things about family and media, fame, addiction, but most importantly, it captures the very heart of what she was about, which is an amazing person and a true musical genius." The film was selected to be shown in the Midnight Screenings section at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival and received its UK premiere at the Edinburgh International Film Festival.

Ames (automobile)

The Ames, originally established in 1881 by Frederick A. Ames, was a buggy manufacturer and later an American automobile manufacturer in Owensboro, Kentucky, from 1910 to 1925. A beetle-backed "gentleman's roadster" and a five-passenger tourer were the first models offered for sale by the company. The company also produced replacement bodies for the Ford Model T. At its peak the company produced approximately 30,000 vehicles. The last model the company made was called "The Kentucky Thoroughbred." In 1922, the company again remade itself, manufacturing furniture under the name F. A. Ames Corporation until 1941 when F.A. Ames Corp. filed for bankruptcy and most of its assets were purchased by the Whitehall Furniture Co. of Owensboro.

Frederic A. Ames died in 1925 at the age of 60. At the time of his death, Ames was reported to have vast real estate holding in Owensboro and Atlanta, Georgia. His widow, the former Mary M. McMannon, died in 1933. Although the Ames had no children of their own, Mary's niece, Marie had been raised in their home as an adopted child, and inherited most of Ames' fortune.

Air Ministry Experimental Station

AMES, short Air Ministry Experimental Station, was the name given to the Air Ministry's radar development team at Bawdsey Manor in the immediate pre-WWII era. Although the team would be forced to move on two occasions, changing names as part of these moves, the AMES acronym became the basis for naming Royal Air Force radar systems through the war. The same numbering sequence was used after the war as well, but generally dropped the AMES from the name. A good example is the Type 80, which was officially an AMES type, but rarely appears with that marque.
