Amoy Food Limited (Chinese: 淘化大同; pinyin: Táohuà Dàtóng, abbr. 淘大) is a cooking sauce and condiments manufacturer in Hong Kong. Its products, which now include foodstuffs such as frozen foods and instant foods for heating in a microwave oven, are sold around the world. It is owned by Ajinomoto of Japan.
Its former factory ground in Ngau Tau Kok was sold in the 1970s and has since been turned into an apartment complex called the Amoy Gardens. It was one of the hotzones of infection during the 2003 SARS Epidemic in Hong Kong.
Amoy (廈門) is the old English romanisation, based on the Min Nan pronunciation of the city in Fujian province, China known in Mandarin as Xiamen.
In 1908, Tao Fa, the predecessor of the company, was founded in Xiamen for producing soy sauce and soy milk.
In 1928, Amoy was set up in Hong Kong.
In a 1947 advertisement, the company was named as Amoy Canning Corporation, Ltd. (香港淘化大同公司 Pinyin: Xiānggǎng Táohuà Dàtóng Gōngsī) with factory in Ngau Tau Kok and the head office at Bonham Strand in Sheung Wan.
Food is any substance consumed to provide nutritional support for the body. It is usually of plant or animal origin, and contains essential nutrients, such as fats, proteins, vitamins, or minerals. The substance is ingested by an organism and assimilated by the organism's cells to provide energy, maintain life, or stimulate growth.
Historically, people secured food through two methods: hunting and gathering and agriculture. Today, the majority of the food energy required by the ever increasing population of the world is supplied by the food industry.
Food safety and food security are monitored by agencies like the International Association for Food Protection, World Resources Institute, World Food Programme, Food and Agriculture Organization, and International Food Information Council. They address issues such as sustainability, biological diversity, climate change, nutritional economics, population growth, water supply, and access to food.
The right to food is a human right derived from the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (ICESCR), recognizing the "right to an adequate standard of living, including adequate food," as well as the "fundamental right to be free from hunger."
Food is the sixth studio album by American recording artist Kelis, released on April 18, 2014, becoming her first album released under Ninja Tune Records. In 2007, Jive dropped Kelis, and she later signed to Interscope and will.i.am Music Group in 2009, through the label she released her fifth studio album, Flesh Tone, which saw Kelis experiment with a dance sound. In 2011 Kelis began work on the follow up to Flesh Tone, however she left Interscope and signed to Federal Prism, before officially signing to the British independent label Ninja Tune for the release of Food.
Food is an R&B and soul album with a diverse musical style that incorporates funk, Afro-beat, Memphis soul, R&B and neo-soul. Its songs feature crackling horns, brass, earthy guitars, simmering electronics and vocals from Kelis that were noted as being breathy, smoky and sultry. The album was viewed as a return to Kelis' previous music prior to Flesh Tone, and was described by Kelis as, "a kind of unspoken lovefest". The album was written by Kelis, alongside David Andrew Sitek, and Todd Simon, and was entirely produced by Dave Sitek and features guest performances by CSS and Priscilla Ahn.
Zico Chain are a rock band from London, United Kingdom, formed in 2002. To date, they have released two full albums entitled Food and The Devil in Your Heart, a self titled EP and an EP called These Birds Will Kill Us All. The band opened the main stage at the Download Festival on 8 June 2007. They supported Velvet Revolver on their 2007 summer tour of the UK, in support of their second album Libertad. Their new album The Devil in Your Heart was released on 16 April 2012.
The band formed in East London. Vocalist-bassist Chris Glithero had moved there from Manchester, and met guitarist Paul Frost and drummer Ollie Middleton. Their dissatisfaction with 21st-century British rock helped them connect with one another. Influenced by such bands as Motörhead, Queens of the Stone Age, The White Stripes and System of a Down, they began recording, and soon were signed to Hassle Records. For their first EP, they worked with Ted Miller, who has previously worked with Placebo. They then toured with Nine Black Alps, Alkaline Trio, Cave In and The Fall of Troy. They had a number-one video on MTV2's chart. Slash and Duff McKagan of Velvet Revolver (and Guns N' Roses) revealed that Zico Chain were their favourite new band. On 9 November 2009, the band released a standalone single "These Birds Will Kill Us All" with B-sides "Blood 'N Bile" and "Daycase", available on iTunes among other internet sites.
Xiamen ([ɕjâmə̌n]), also historically known as Amoy (/əˈmɔɪ/, POJ Hokkien ε̄-mûiⁿ, Ē-mn̂g), is a major city on the southeast (Taiwan Strait) coast of the China. It is administered as a sub-provincial city of Fujian province, with an area of 1,699.39 square kilometres (656.14 sq mi) and population of 3,531,347 at the 2010 Census. The city's urban area includes the old urban island area and covers all six districts of Xiamen (Huli, Siming, Jimei, Tong'an, Haicang and recently Xiang'an), and has a total urban population of 1,861,289. It also borders Quanzhou to the north and Zhangzhou making this a unique built-up area of more than five million people. The Jinmen (Kinmen) Islands administered by the Republic of China are less than 10 kilometres (6.2 mi) away.
Being one of the major Hokkien-speaking cities in China, Xiamen and the surrounding southern Fujian cities and counties such as Zhangzhou and Quanzhou are the ancestral homes to large communities of overseas Chinese in Southeast Asia, especially Singapore, various parts of Malaysia as well as the Indonesian Riau Province. The city was a treaty port in the 19th century and one of the four original Special Economic Zones opened to foreign investment and trade when China began economic reforms in the early 1980s. It is endowed with educational and cultural institutions supported by the overseas Chinese diaspora. In 2006, Xiamen was ranked as China's second "most suitable city for living", as well as China's "most romantic leisure city" in 2011.
Xiamen, or Amoy, is a city on the southeast coast of China.
Amoy may also refer to:
Amoy (Chinese: 廈門話; Pe̍h-ōe-jī: Ē-mn̂g-ōe or Ē-mûiⁿ-ōa), also known as Amoy Min, Xiamenese or Xiamen dialect, is a Hokkien dialect spoken in Southern Fujian province (in Southeast China), in the area centered on the city of Xiamen. Amoy Min is often known by its Hokkien or Min Nan in Southeast Asia. It is one of the most widely researched varieties of Min Nan, and has historically come to be one of the more standardized varieties.
Spoken Amoy and Taiwanese are both mixtures of Zhangzhou and Quanzhou speech. As such, they are very closely aligned phonologically. However, there are some subtle differences between the two, as a result of physical separation and other historical factors. The lexical differences between the two are slightly more pronounced. Generally speaking the Hokkien dialects of Amoy, Quanzhou, Zhangzhou, Taiwan, and Southeast Asia are mutually intelligible.
In 1842, as a result of the signing of the Treaty of Nanking, Xiamen (Amoy) was designated as a trading port. Xiamen and Gulangyu islands rapidly developed, which resulted in a large influx of people from neighboring areas such as Quanzhou and Zhangzhou. The mixture of these various accents formed the basis for Amoy.
first off i would like to tell all the fat people out there
that there is hope for you and it starts with my best
friend Jenny u see Jenny used to be fat just like the
rest of us fat asses that like to sit around on the couch
all day and be fat i admit it i used to be a whopping 240 lbs
but now that i met my friend i am down to 205 lbs and in
only 3 1/2 months with a shake for breakfast, a shake for
lunch, and a slice of bread for dinner. it's the miracle diet!!!
i also engage in lots and lots of dirty dirty sex with my fat
ass husband, who is also on the diet. he has gone from 420 lbs
to 380 lbs in 3 1/2 months and he looks sexier and sexier
every day...especially when he is naked. i would also like
to take this time to advertise a brand new store where
people like you and me can go shopping without embarrassment.
u see they have stores for the small and petite little wenches
that think they're hot shit just because they don't have to
wear maternity clothes when they aren't pregnant. they also
have stores for the "big and tall" but for people like me who
are big but not tall, well, clothing companies like to forget
about us when it comes to making nice clothes, such as
spandex. something about not having enough material to
make the size i need or something. but anyway this new store
has everything we need and more. the store has aisles that
are 2x the size of a regular store, so no more backing out
of the aisle to let the other people get out, a definite plus.
also the entrances and exits are like barn doors, except
the open with a motion detector...ingenious!!! the store
carries clothing of all sizes...except for normal people that
meet the weight requirements to use an elevator. what
is the name of this amazing place you might ask well
it is called "Vertically Challenged and Pleasantly Plump"
and it fits the store perfectly without putting down us
fat asses. now if you take time to call the 800 number
a recording will help u find the nearest location of the
store and i'm tellin ya this place is going to be popular
i'm talking McDonald's type popular and we all know
how much we love that place so just call this number
