Amon Saga

Amon Saga (アモン・サーガ, Amon Sāga) is an anime OVA released in 1986. The character and conceptual art was contributed by Yoshitaka Amano. It was released by Manga Entertainment in 2001.

World

The world in Amon Saga is a medieval one, filled with bizarre creatures, such as the giant turtle that holds the Valhiss fortress on its back. The world is populated by both human and humanoid creatures. The story is set in a time where the Valhiss Empire is trying to take over the world through a map. Amon is a man seeking vengeance against the emperor Valhiss for the death of his mothers. He competes in a challenge to become the Emperor's new soldiers to gain entry. On a mission he accidentally meets the captive; princess Lychia who aids him.

Characters

Amon – The title character of the movie, Amon is a young swordsman similar in appearance to Elric of Melniboné, with amazing skill. He joins the Valhiss army with the intention of avenging his mother's death, by killing the emperor.

Gaius – A man nearly twice Amon's height, and many times his strength, Gaius also seeks to join Valhiss' army. After a brief encounter with Amon in a bar, the two men form mutual respect for each other's abilities, and work together to pass the recruitment test.

Saga (event)

Saga is an annual musical festival organized by Royal College Colombo. The first SAGA was held in 2004 and since then has become an important event on Colombo's cultural calendar. It is named after the ancient Greek epic poems the Odyssey and the Iliad attributed to Homer. In the aspect of oriental music the term referred to the oriental version of sing musical scales as ‘Sa’ refers to the oriental equivalent of the 1st degree- “Do” while “Ga” refers to the equivalent of the 3rd degree, or “Me”

History

For many years before Saga, an annual concert performed by the by Royal College Hostel named Miyasi Meerawaya. Miyasi Meerawaya was limited to hostelers, however Upali Gunasekara, the newly appointed Principal of Royal College Colombo wished to broaden the scope for every one to perform. As a result Saga I was organized in 2004 with the leadership of Principal Upali Gunasekara and Music Teacher Ashoka Pushpakumara. The project was joined by the School Development Society of the College which was in the process of developing a fundraising event to help development projects within the school. With it the two projects merged becoming one of the largest national events. Over the years dance and drama were added to the event.

Saga, Saga

Saga (佐賀市, Saga-shi) is the capital city of Saga Prefecture, located on the island of Kyushu, Japan.

Saga was the capital of Saga Domain in the Edo period, and largest city of former Hizen Province.

As of February 1, 2009, the city has an estimated population of 238,934 and a population density of 554 persons per km². The total area is 431.42 km².

On October 1, 2005, Saga absorbed the towns of Fuji, Morodomi and Yamato (all from Saga District) and the village of Mitsuse (from Kanzaki District) to create the new and expanded city of Saga. With this creation, the city now neighbors the city of Fukuoka (in Fukuoka Prefecture).

On October 1, 2007 the towns of Higashiyoka, Kawasoe, and Kubota (all from Saga District) were also incorporated into Saga, further expanding its borders.

Although Saga is the capital of Saga Prefecture, it can also be said to be within the Greater Fukuoka metropolitan area, and by extension, Fukuoka-Kitakyushu Metropolitan Area.

Sága and Sökkvabekkr

In Norse mythology, Sága (Old Norse: [saːɣa], possibly meaning "seeress") is a goddess associated with the wisdom Sökkvabekkr (Old Norse: [sɔkːwabekːr]; "sunken bank", "sunken bench", or "treasure bank"). At Sökkvabekkr, Sága and the god Odin merrily drink as cool waves flow. Both Sága and Sökkvabekkr are attested in the Poetic Edda, compiled in the 13th century from earlier traditional sources, and in the Prose Edda, written in the 13th century by Snorri Sturluson. Scholars have proposed theories about the implications of the goddess and her associated location, including that the location may be connected to the goddess Frigg's fen residence Fensalir and that Sága may be another name for Frigg.

Etymology

The etymology of the name Sága is generally held to be connected to the Old Norse verb sjá, meaning "to see" (from Proto-Germanic *sehwan). This may mean that Sága is to be understood as a seeress. Since Frigg is referred to as a seeress in the poem Lokasenna, this etymology has led to theories connecting Sága to Frigg. Rudolf Simek says that this etymology raises vowel problems and that a link to saga and segja (meaning "say, tell") is more likely, yet that this identification is also problematic.

In the Dungeons & Dragons roleplaying game, Amon (/ˈeɪmən/ AY-mən), also known as Amon the Wolf, is a deposed Duke of Hell.

Publication history

Amon was first detailed in Gary Gygax's article "From the Sorcerer's Scroll: New Denizens of Devildom," in Dragon #75 (TSR, 1983). He also appeared in the original Monster Manual II (1983).

The Planescape supplement Faces of Evil: The Fiends (1997) briefly described Amon. He appears in the adventure A Paladin in Hell (1998).

In third edition, Amon was given statistics in an online web enhancement for the Book of Vile Darkness (2002) titled "Yet More Archfiends". Amon was briefly detailed in Fiendish Codex II: Tyrants of the Nine Hells (2006).

Description

This fiend has a nine feet tall, humanlike body and the head of a wolf. He carries a gigantic mace with the iron face of a wolf at the end of its shaft. Amon is always accompanied by his winter wolf companion, Soulfang.

Relationships

Amon is the late arch-Duke Geryon's former lieutenant, once in command of 40 companies of osyluths.

Witch Hunter Robin

Witch Hunter Robin (ウィッチハンターロビン, Witchi Hantā Robin) is a 2002 Japanese anime series created by Sunrise. The series follows a fictional Japanese branch of a secret global organization called "SOLOMON" or the "Solomon Toukatsu Nin'idantai" (roughly "Solomon Executive Organization"), abbreviated as "STN" or "STN-J". Solomon fights the harmful use of witchcraft using a database of witches, which includes those who have obtained the power of witchcraft through genetics and others who carry the gene (called "seeds") in order to arrest or eliminate them should their powers "awaken". The series focuses on one STN-J member, Robin Sena.

Plot

Robin Sena is a "craft user", born in Japan and raised by the Roman Catholic Church in Italy. She is trained to use her craft of fire to hunt down witches. Witchcraft is a genetic trait, dormant within a number of individuals within the human population. Powers can be "awakened" in these dormant human "seeds" at any time, which seems to also drive the awakened witch into various forms of homicidal madness or sociopathy. Trained hunters, craft-users or "seeds" themselves that have not become full witches, are needed to keep watch over "seeds" and hunt those whose abilities become active, serving in secret organizations, such as the parent branch "Solomon" and the "STN-J" branch in Japan, as self-appointed witch police to curtail the use of witchcraft in society, and to keep the witch kind a secret from the public. Even the police, who cooperate with STN-J in abnormal criminal cases, do not know what STN-J does.

Aamon

Aamon (also Amon and Nahum), in demonology, is a Marquis of Hell who governs forty infernal legions. Aamon is a demon and the Grand Marquis of Hell and the seventh spirit of the Goetia. He is not to be confused with the Egyptian god Amun, who often shares the same name as him.

The names Aamon and Amon come from the god Amun or from the god Baal-hamon. Nahum means who induces to eagerness.

In demonology Aamon is one of Astaroth's assistants, also going by the name Amon. It is stated he knows past and future, giving that knowledge to those who would make a pact with Satan. According to the "Dictionnaire Infernal" by Collin de Plancy, he commands forty legions of demons and carries the title of prince. Demonologists have associated his name with the Egyptian god Amun or with the god Ba‘al Hammon of Carthage. Like many ancient entities, he is not all vileness and malignance, as he is also an entity many looked to reconcile friends and foes. He was also said to procure love for those seeking it.
