Alsou Ralifovna Abramova (Russian: Алсу́ Рали́фовна Абра́мова; Tatar: Cyrillic Алсу Рәлиф кызы Абрамова, Latin Alsu Rälif qızı Abramova; née Safina), better known as just Alsou (Алсу́; born on June 27, 1983), is a Russian singer. She competed in the Eurovision Song Contest 2000 in which she came in second place giving her recognition across Europe. Alsou hosted the final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2009 held in Moscow.
Alsou was born in Bugulma, Tatar ASSR, Russian SSR, Soviet Union. Her father, Ralif Rafilovich Safin, who is of Bashkir descent, is an oligarch, a former LUKoil executive and a current member of the Federal Council, the upper chamber of the Russian parliament. He is also the owner of the FC Zhemchuzhina-Sochi football team and was named the 100th richest citizen of Russia by Forbes magazine in 2004. Alsou's mother, Raziya Iskhakovna, is an architect of Volga Tatar descent. Alsou is a Muslim. She has an older half-brother Rusla (1973), older brother Marat (1977, not to be confused with tennis player Marat Safin), and a younger brother Renard (1996).
Alsou was the first English album by Alsou, a Russian singer who was best known at the time of the album's release as the second-place finisher in the Eurovision Song Contest 2000. The album was released in Russia on June 28, 2001, and later in Germany, Norway, Poland, the Czech Republic and Malaysia.
The album's lead single, "Before You Love Me", which was released on April 30, 2001, in Australia and the United Kingdom and in May 2001 in various countries throughout Europe, failed to chart in Australia, but in the United Kingdom it peaked at number twenty-seven. A lack of promotional support from Alsou's record company meant that no further releases occurred in either Australia or the United Kingdom, with the release of the Alsou album cancelled in both regions. The single was, however, effective in producing the hype it needed throughout Europe for the album to be released and proper promotion to take place.
A follow-up single, "He Loves Me", was released only in Germany on October 15, 2001.
Алсу is the self-titled debut album by the Russian pop-singer Alsou. The album was recorded and released in Russia on September 6 1999. By March 2000, nearly 500.000 copies of this album were sold in Russia and more than 200.000 copies in other CIS countries. To support this album, Alsou gave some live performances in Russia and other countries during the 2000, and beginning of 2001.
I've kissed the moon a million times
Danced with angels in the sky
I've seen snowfall in the summertime
Felt the healing of the powers above
I've seen the world from the highest mountain
Tasted love from the purest fountain
I've seen lips that spark desire
Felt the butterflies a hundred times
I've even seen miracles
I've felt the pain disappear
But still haven't seen anything
That amazes me quite like you do
You bring me up when I'm feeling down
You touch me deep you touch you me right
You do the things I've never done
You make me wicked you make me wild
'Cause baby, you're my number one
I've sailed in a perfect dream
I've seen the sun make love to the sea
I've kissed the moon a million times
Danced with angels in the sky
I've even seen miracles
I've seen the tears disappear
But still haven't seen anything
That amazes me quite like you do
