AR: Absolute Return + Alpha (or AR) is a hedge fund magazine founded in 2009. The magazine has its editorial offices in New York City.

History and profile

Absolute Return + Alpha (AR) was launched in September 2009, as a subsidiary of financial publisher Euromoney Institutional Investor.AR was formed when two magazines, Alpha and Absolute Return, were combined. The magazine publishes both online and print content. Its main focus is the hedge fund industry and its 3,500 fund managers, but the magazine also covers significant financial events and global research. The magazine features hedge fund rankings according to assets under management rankings, an annual ranking of the 25 highest paid hedge fund managers, and monthly tables of U.S. hedge fund performance data.

Selena albums discography

American singer Selena has released five studio albums, three live albums, one soundtrack and twenty-one compilation albums. Credited for elevating a music genre into the mainstream market, Selena remains the best-selling Tejano recording artist whose posthumous releases continue to outsell those of living musicians. As of 2015, the singer has sold 60 million copies worldwide, and was named the "Top Latin Artist of the '90s" and "Best-selling Latin Artist of the Decade" by Billboard magazine. In 1995, Selena was inducted into the Billboard Latin Music Hall of Fame, the Hard Rock Cafe's Hall of Fame, the South Texas Music Hall of Fame, and the Tejano Music Hall of Fame in 2001.

Selena's career began as lead vocalist of Los Dinos in 1980. She signed with EMI Latin nine years later as a solo artist though her band continued to tour with her. She released her self-titled debut album that same year, which peaked at number seven on the U.S. Billboard Regional Mexican Albums chart. With Selena, the singer outsold other female Tejano artists. She released her second album Ven Conmigo in October 1990; it peaked at number three on the Regional Mexican Albums chart. Ven Conmigo was later certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) for shipments of 50,000 units, the first recording by a female Tejano artist to do so. As of 2010, Ven Conmigo had sold 500,000 copies in the United States. According to music critics, her next recording Entre a Mi Mundo (1992), was the "breakthrough album" of her musical career. The album and its lead single, "Como la Flor", helped launch the singer's career in Mexico.Entre a Mi Mundo peaked at number one on the Regional Mexican Albums chart for eight consecutive months; and was certified 6× platinum by the RIAA, signifying shipments of 600,000 units. Entre a Mi Mundo became the first Tejano recording by a female artist to sell over 300,000 copies.

61 Cygni

The star system 61 Cygni, in the Sirius Sector, is advanced by Lord Dorwin as the potential site for a planet of origin for the human species. Lord Dorwin cites 'Sol' (meaning Earth's Sun) and three other planetary systems in the Sirius Sector, along with Arcturus in the Arcturus Sector, as potential original worlds. (This fact seems to be contradicted by information given in Foundation and Earth). Claims were made as early as 1942 that 61 Cygni had a planetary system, though to date, none has been verified, and Asimov was aware of these claims.

Alpha

Alpha is a fictional planet orbiting the larger of the two stars in the Alpha Centauri system.

In Asimov's Foundation Series, Alpha Centauri is cited by Lord Dorwin as one of the solar systems where humankind potentially originated. The others are Sol, Sirius, 61 Cygni and Arcturus. Beyond mentioning that it is in the Sirius Sector, Dorwin gives no further details.

The Hand (comics)

The Hand is a fictional supervillain organization appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics.

The Hand is an order of evil mystical ninjas who are heavily involved in organized crime and mercenary activities such as assassination plots. The Hand covets power above all other objectives. They are primarily based in Japan, but operate internationally. They were founded in 1588 as a secret society of Japanese nationalist samurai but were soon co-opted by the Snakeroot, an ancient ninja clan which serves a primordial demon known only as "The Beast".

Members of the Hand are practitioners of powerful occult magic and can murder a person and bring that person back to life as a servant of the Hand, but a few are known to have reversed this programming. The Hand's most dangerous adversary is The Chaste, a band of warriors once led by Stick, the late, blind martial arts master and former mentor of Matt Murdock, who grew to become the costumed crime-fighter Daredevil and, after many bitter battles, would accept the offer of becoming the master of the Hand.

In poker, players construct hands of playing cards according to predetermined rules, which vary according to which variant of poker is being played. These hands are compared using a hand ranking system that is standard across all variants of poker. The player with the highest-ranking hand wins that particular deal in most poker games. In some variants, the lowest-ranking hand can win or tie.

These hand rankings are also used in some other card games and in poker dice. The ranking of a particular hand is increased by including multiple cards of the same card rank, by all five cards being from the same suit, or by the five cards forming a consecutive series. The relative ranking of the various hand categories is based on the probability of being randomly dealt such a hand from a well-shuffled deck.

Civilizations in Babylon 5

This article discusses fictional civilizations on the science-fiction television show Babylon 5.

As the Babylon station was conceived as a political and cultural meeting place one of the show's many themes is the cultural and social interaction between civilizations. There are five dominant civilizations represented on Babylon 5: humans, the Narn, the Centauri, the Minbari, and the Vorlons; and several dozen less powerful ones. A number of the less powerful races make up the League of Non-Aligned Worlds, which assembled as a result of the Dilgar War, which occurs 30 years before the start of the series.

Languages

There are three primary languages used on the Babylon 5 station: English, as well as the fictional Centauri and Interlac. English is mentioned explicitly as the "human language of commerce," and is the baseline language of the station (written signs appearing in all three languages). Other human and alien languages do exist in the Babylon 5 universe, though with the exception of Minbari, hearing them spoken is uncommon; when aliens of the same species are speaking to one another, the words heard are English, though it is presumed they are speaking their native tongue. Only when in the presence of humans can the alien language be heard, to stress that the humans cannot understand what is being said. With the exception of the Minbari tongue, few other alien languages are actually heard aloud on a regular basis.
