Alpha Capricorni (α Cap, α Capricorni) is an optical double star in the constellation Capricornus. It has the traditional names Algiedi, Al Giedi, Algedi or Giedi; however, Giedi is sometimes also associated with β Capricorni.
The name Algedi is derived from the Arabic word الجدي al-jady, meaning "the billy goat" or "kid," and also refers to the entire constellation of Capricornus. It is known as 牛宿二 (the Second Star of the Ox) in Chinese.
The two unassociated star systems in the optical double are:
They are separated by 0.11° on the sky, and resolvable with the naked eye, similar to Mizar and Alcor.

Alpha2 Capricorni (α2 Cap, α2 Capricorni) is a star in the constellation Capricornus. It also has the traditional star name Secunda Giedi or Algiedi Secunda, and shares the name Algedi (from الجدي - al-jadii, meaning the goat) with α¹ Capricorni.
In Chinese, 牛宿 (Niú Su), meaning Ox (asterism), refers to an asterism consisting of α² Capricorni, β Capricorni, ξ2 Capricorni, π Capricorni, ο Capricorni and ρ Capricorni. Consequently, α² Capricorni itself is known as 牛宿二 (Niú Su èr, English: the Second Star of Ox.)
α2 Capricorni is a yellow G-type giant with an apparent magnitude of +3.58. It is approximately 109 light years from Earth.
Alpha1 Capricorni (α1 Cap, α1 Capricorni) is a double star in the southern constellation of Capricornus. It also has the traditional star name Prima Giedi or Algiedi Prima, and shares the name Algedi (from الجدي - al-jadii, meaning the goat) with α² Capricorni. It is approximately 690 light years from Earth.
This is a yellow G-type supergiant with an apparent magnitude of +4.30. This star has 5.3 times the mass of the Sun and is radiating around 1,047 times the Sun's luminosity. It has an 8th magnitude companion, separated by 0.65 arcseconds from the primary.
The name Giedi Prime is used for a fictional planet in Frank Herbert's 1965 science fiction novel Dune. The planet Giedi Prime is known to be the home planet of the Harkonnens.
