Almah (עלמה, plural: alamot עלמות, in Arabic Amah آمه which means unspecified woman or a woman past puberty, regardless of sexual status) is a Hebrew word meaning a young woman of childbearing age who has not yet had a child, and who may be (but does not have to be) an unmarried virgin or a married young woman. It does not, in and of itself, indicate whether that woman is a virgin or not. The term occurs nine times in the Hebrew Bible – see usage below.
The masculine equivalent of almah is elem ("עלם" in Arabic gelam غلام) meaning "youth" or "young man of the age of puberty". Feminizing these terms would result in "young woman" or "young woman of the age of puberty". Gesenius defines the word as a "girl of marriageable age". In modern Hebrew almah means a young woman or girl, a young or unmarried woman.
The notion of marriageability is typically part of the definition of almah. In the ancient Near East girls had value as potential wives and bearers of children. Carolyn S. Leeb points out: "A wife, who came into her husband's household as an outsider, contributed her labor and her fertility. Her task was to build up the bet 'ab by bearing children, particularly sons". This same sense of marriageability does not accrue to the masculine elem even though they also have entered puberty, but it does apply to "bachur" or "young warrior", when boys have matured to the point of being able to support a new household.
Almah is a Brazilian metal band. It was initially established in 2006 as a side project of former Angra’s singer Edu Falaschi. Since 2006 Almah has released three albums and has turned from a solo-project into a band with regular activities. The band released its third album entitled "Motion" in October 2011. "Motion" was recorded at Norcal Studios in São Paulo, Brasil between May and June 2011. The album was mixed and mastered by Jochem Jacobs at Split Second Sound Studios in Amsterdam in July 2011. They released theirfourth album "Unfold" in 2013, and a compilation titled "Within The Last Eleven Lines" in 2015.
The first self-titled Almah was released in the second half of 2006 (Japan/Victor-JVC and Brazil/Laser Company) / in March 2007 (Europe/AFM Records). Besides singing, Edu Falaschi also produced the record, composed all the songs and wrote all the lyrics. He recorded acoustic guitars and keyboards and created all the arrangements for every instrument, including orchestrations. The album was recorded in Finland and Brazil with the following musicians: Emppu Vuorinen (guitars – Nightwish), Lauri Porra (bass – Stratovarius) and Casey Grillo (drums – Kamelot) and special guest appearances: Mike Stone (guitars – Queensrÿche), Edu Ardanuy (guitars – Dr. Sin) and Sizão Machado (bass – Tom Jobim, Chico Buarque and others) among others.
Almah is the first album of Almah, a solo project of Brazilian heavy metal singer and Angra frontman Edu Falaschi. The lyrics are about the different feelings of the human being and the title phonetically means "soul" in the Portuguese language. It was released in August, 2006 (see 2006 in music), and Edu toured promoting the album in Brazil along with former Symbols members Tito Falaschi (his brother) and Demian Tiguez.
How can we live with this
Power and misery
Do they fight
Or order to fight for them?
Somebody dies in vain
'Cause somebody seeds the fear
What do you see?
A future in a dead end street
There's a reason to restrict
Bounds and freedom: you get strong!
Mask your faith behind guns
Zombies dictator
Their people eat rotten bread
While their destructive souls
Make a toast
For the death industry
There's a reason to restrict
Bounds and freedom: you get strong!
Mask your faith behind guns
Zombies dictator
There's a reason to resist
The imposition of terror!
All the people born free
Zombies dictator
You lead the hades through the hill of no hope
You foresee all disgrace of the west
Wield guns and aim your head
And adorn the desert with your blood
Save us now
And burn in hell with your mob
There's a reason to restrict
Bounds and freedom: you get strong!
Mask your faith behind guns
Zombies dictator
There's a reason to resist
The imposition of terror!
All the people born free
Zombies dictator
