Allison Miller

Allison Miller (born September 2, 1985) is an American actress. She is best known for playing Michelle Benjamin on the NBC series Kings, Skye Tate on the Fox series Terra Nova, and Carrie on the NBC series Go On.

Early life

Miller was born in Rome, Italy, to American parents Margo and John Winn Miller. Her father is the former publisher of The Olympian newspaper in Olympia, Washington. He retired in January 2009 to pursue other interests. Her parents have since left Washington and moved back to the eastern United States.

Miller moved a lot as a child, growing up mostly in Lexington, Kentucky, before she started high school in State College and finished at Maclay School in Tallahassee, Florida.

Miller very briefly attended Boston University before attending Rhodes College for her Freshman year. She then transferred to the University of Florida in Gainesville. She is a sister of Kappa Delta sorority and was featured in a story in Kappa Delta's newsletter The Angelos.

In 2006, Miller dropped out of college and moved to Hollywood to pursue her career full-time. In addition to acting, she has training in voice, tap, and jazz, as well as in modern dance. She is a mezzo-soprano and plays the piano and the guitar. She is proficient in Spanish and French.

Allison Miller is a New York City-based drummer, singer, composer. She has recorded three albums: 5 AM Stroll, Boom Tic Boom and No Morphine, No Lilies, as well as working as a session musician. Her work with bands has included forming the band "emma," with Erin McKeown, and her own band, Allison Miller's Boom Tic Boom.

Miller has performed with songwriting vocalists Ani DiFranco, Natalie Merchant, and Erin McKeown, and toured with avant-garde saxophonist Marty Ehrlich and organist Doctor Lonnie Smith and folk-rock singer Brandi Carlile.

Miller is also a collaborative member of Agrazing Maze, composed of Ingrid Jensen (trumpet), Enrique Haneine (piano), Carlo DeRosa (bass) and Miller on drums. Their album, At the End of the Day, was released on Foxhaven Records in November 2005 and was voted a "Top 10 Jazz Record of 2005" in All About Jazz NY.

Life

Miller began playing the drums at age 10, and quickly began studying with a top teacher in the Washington D.C. area, Walter Salb. In 1991, she was featured in Downbeat magazine's "Up and Coming" spotlight. She soon began playing in clubs in Washington D.C. and eventually received a Bachelor of Music Performance degree at West Virginia University. After graduating summa cum laude in 1996, she moved to New York City to begin her career as a freelance drummer and continue her studies with Michael Carvin.

Allison Miller (artist)

Allison Miller (born 1974 in Evanston, Illinois) is a contemporary artist based in Los Angeles.

Miller received her BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design in 1996, and her MFA from the University of California, Los Angeles in 2001.

She has had multiple solo exhibits at galleries including the ACME Gallery in Los Angeles and at the Susan Inglett gallery in New York City. Her work was also part of a group exhibit, "Made in L.A. 2012", at the Hammer Museum, and has been included in the permanent collection of the Orange County Museum of Art.

Miller's art combines multiple media including oil paints, acrylic, pencil, and dirt. Her pieces use bright colors, bold forms and textures, and tentative and improvised sketchy lines, producing what has been described as a gravity-defying three-dimensional sculptural effect.
