Allen Gum

Allen Gum (born July 22, 1969) is an American college baseball coach, currently serving as head coach of the Central Arkansas Bears baseball team. He was named to that position prior to the 2011 season.

Pre-collegiate coaching

Gum played two seasons at Crowder College before completing his eligibility at Southern Arkansas. Both seasons with the Muleriders, he batted above .300 and helped lead the team to conference championships. In his junior season, Southern Arkansas reached the NAIA World Series, where Gum was awarded the Charles Berry Hustle Award. He then served as an assistant coach at Sheridan High School in Sheridan, Arkansas for six years before becoming head coach at Batesville High School in Batesville, Arkansas in 2000. He remained at Batesville through the 2003 season, compiling a record of 75–25, and finishing as state runners up in both 2002 and 2003.

Collegiate coaching career

In 2004, Gum became an assistant at Southern Arkansas. He was elevated to the top job in 2006. In five seasons, the Muleriders won 40 or more games every year, reached the Division II College World Seriesin 2009, won two conference championships, four Regionals, and the number one national ranking for 24 weeks during the course of three seasons. In the 2010 MLB Draft, Muleriders pitcher Hayden Simpson was picked 16th overall by the Chicago Cubs, the highest Division II players to be drafted that year. In July 2010, Gum became head coach at Central Arkansas. He led the Bears to their first Southland Conference Baseball Tournament title in 2013, and reached the Regional final before falling to eventual national runner-up Mississippi State.

Allen (Prison Break)

"Allen" is the second episode of the television series Prison Break, which was first broadcast on television on August 29, 2005. The episode is the second to air alongside the Pilot episode as part of the two-part start of the series. "Allen" was written by series creator Paul Scheuring and directed by Michael Watkins. Robert Knepper makes his first appearance as Theodore "T-Bag" Bagwell, but was not yet billed as a regular character until the following episode, "Cell Test". Also, Marshall Allman, despite credited, does not appear as L. J. Burrows.

The episode's title refers to the hex key that Michael makes from a screw, the key being named "Allen Schweitzer 11121147". Also in this episode, Veronica Donovan continues her investigation as to who is actually responsible to framing Lincoln Burrows on Michael's request, while at the same time, Michael deals with the impending race riot in Fox River, which could hinder his escape plans.

Plot

Michael Scofield and Fernando Sucre (Amaury Nolasco) face a lockdown in order for the guards to search cells for contraband, where they're about to throw away a knife, but were stopped by Bellick (Wade Williams), who sends Sucre to SHU. Warden Pope (Stacy Keach) calls off the search for Michael's cell, but Bellick feels determined to, and sneaks into his cell when the prisoners are away, and finds the name "Allen Schweitzer". Bellick runs the name on the database, only to find no one matching it.

Allen (surname)

Allen is a Celtic surname, originating in Scotland, and common in Ireland, Wales and England. It is a variation of the surname MacAllen and may be derived from two separate sources: Ailin, in Scottish and Irish Gaelic, means both "little rock" and "harmony", or it may also be derived from the Celtic Aluinn, which means "handsome". Variant spellings include Alan, Allan, etc. The noble family of this surname, from which a branch went to Portugal, is descended of one Alanus de Buckenhall.

In Ireland, Allen is the Anglicization of the Gaelic name Ó h-Ailín. Allen is the 41st most common surname in England.

Disambiguation

Allen (1913 Ohio automobile)

The Allen was an American automobile, built at Fostoria, Ohio between 1913 and 1921. The company used 3.1-litre side-valve Sommers four-cylinder engines, and acquired that company in 1915. The 1920 Allen 43 was a handsome craft, featuring bevel-sided touring coachwork and a high-shouldered radiator. Unfortunately, sales of this vehicle were not enough to avert the company's bankruptcy, which followed in 1921. Willys acquired what little was left. Overall, 20,00 vehicles were sold.

Confusingly, another American company also offered a car called the Allen, also in 1913, though the Ohio model was somewhat more successful.

GUM (department store)

GUM (Russian: ГУМ, pronounced [ˈɡum], an abbreviation of the Russian: Глáвный универсáльный магазѝн; Glávnyj Universáĺnyj Magazín; literally "main universal store") is the name of the main department store in many cities of the former Soviet Union, known as State Department Store (Russian: Государственный универсальный магазин; Gosudarstvennyi Universalnyi Magazin) during the Soviet times. Similarly named stores were found in some Soviet republics and post-Soviet states. The most famous GUM is the large store in the Kitai-gorod part of Moscow facing Red Square. It is currently a shopping mall. Prior to the 1920s, the location was known as the Upper Trading Rows (Russian: Верхние торговые ряды). Nearby, also facing Red Square, is a building very similar to GUM, known formerly as the Middle Trading Rows, now the Central Universal Department Store (Russian: Центрáльный Универсáльный Магазѝн (ЦУМ) / Centráĺnyj Universáĺnyj Magazín (CUM)). It is about the same size as a large North American shopping mall. It has a clear roof.

NGC 6334

NGC 6334 (also known as the Cat's Paw Nebula, Bear Claw Nebula and Gum 64) is an emission nebula and star-forming region located in the constellation Scorpius. It was discovered by astronomer John Herschel in 1837, who observed it from the Cape of Good Hope in South Africa.

NGC 6302

NGC 6302, also called the Bug Nebula, Butterfly Nebula, is a bipolar planetary nebula in the constellation Scorpius. The structure in the nebula is among the most complex ever observed in planetary nebulae. The spectrum of NGC 6302 shows that its central star is one of the hottest stars in the galaxy, with a surface temperature in excess of 200,000 K, implying that the star from which it formed must have been very large (cf. PG 1159 star).

The central star, a white dwarf, was only recently discovered (Szyszka et al. 2009), using the upgraded Wide Field Camera 3 on board the Hubble Space Telescope. The star has a current mass of around 0.64 solar masses. It is surrounded by a particularly dense equatorial disc composed of gas and dust. This dense disc is postulated to have caused the star's outflows to form a bipolar structure (Gurzadyan 1997) similar to an hour-glass. This bipolar structure shows many interesting features seen in planetary nebulae such as ionization walls, knots and sharp edges to the lobes.
