Allen (Kent cricketer)

Allen (first name and dates unknown) was an English cricketer who played in major matches for Kent during the 1740s. He is recorded playing for William Hodsoll's XI against Long Robin's XI at the Artillery Ground on Thursday, 9 July 1747. The match was arranged by the London Cricket Club but the result is unknown.

As Allen had established his reputation by 1745, he must have been active for some years previously and his career probably began in the 1730s. Very few players were mentioned by name in contemporary reports and there are no other references to Allen. One source says he may have played in 1751 in a match between Kent and Hampshire.

Allen (Prison Break)

"Allen" is the second episode of the television series Prison Break, which was first broadcast on television on August 29, 2005. The episode is the second to air alongside the Pilot episode as part of the two-part start of the series. "Allen" was written by series creator Paul Scheuring and directed by Michael Watkins. Robert Knepper makes his first appearance as Theodore "T-Bag" Bagwell, but was not yet billed as a regular character until the following episode, "Cell Test". Also, Marshall Allman, despite credited, does not appear as L. J. Burrows.

The episode's title refers to the hex key that Michael makes from a screw, the key being named "Allen Schweitzer 11121147". Also in this episode, Veronica Donovan continues her investigation as to who is actually responsible to framing Lincoln Burrows on Michael's request, while at the same time, Michael deals with the impending race riot in Fox River, which could hinder his escape plans.

Plot

Michael Scofield and Fernando Sucre (Amaury Nolasco) face a lockdown in order for the guards to search cells for contraband, where they're about to throw away a knife, but were stopped by Bellick (Wade Williams), who sends Sucre to SHU. Warden Pope (Stacy Keach) calls off the search for Michael's cell, but Bellick feels determined to, and sneaks into his cell when the prisoners are away, and finds the name "Allen Schweitzer". Bellick runs the name on the database, only to find no one matching it.

Allen's

Allen's (est. 1955) was a hamburger joint and nightclub originally in the Normaltown neighborhood of Athens, Georgia, later located at the corner of Hawthorne and Oglethorpe Avenues. It closed in November 2011.

History

Allen's was opened by Allen Saine. Saine later sold the business to Athens businessman Billy Slaughter. Slaughter hired Danny Self to run the business and eventually sold it to Self while keeping the real estate.

Allen's got its "World Famous" nickname because of its proximity to the Navy Supply School. The student officers frequented Allen's. They wear Allen's T-shirts in ports all over the world.

In 2002, Self died and Slaughter ended up with the business eventually closing it in 2004 and later demolishing the building. In 2007, two University of Georgia alumni (Mark Hammond and Hilt Moree, III) acquired the rights to Allen's from Slaughter and re-opened it in a new location with much of the original memorabilia, recipes, and live music. It is across the street from the Athens YMCA location but still on the edge of Normaltown. There are various framed memorabilia on the walls.

Allen's (confectionery)

Allen's is an Australian brand of confectionery produced by Nestlé. It is best known for Minties, a soft chewable mint flavoured confectionery, and their varieties of 'Party Mix' lollies, which include 'Snakes', 'Milk Bottles', 'Cola', 'Red Frogs', 'Pineapples', and 'Bananas'.

History

Allen's was founded by Alfred Weaver Allen (1870–1925), a Melbourne confectioner. Originally employed by MacRobertson's, he commenced confectionery production in the 1890s at his Fitzroy confectionery shop. By 1909, Allen's was the third largest confectionery business in Melbourne, after those of MacRobertson and Abel Hoadley. It launched as a public company in 1922 and erected a vast factory to the design of prominent Melbourne architect Joseph Plottel in South Melbourne on the banks of the Yarra River, where its animated neon sign was a local landmark up to its demise in 1987.

Allen's abandoned chocolate production after World War II, however it became Australia's largest confectionery company. Allen's was purchased by UK-based Rothmans Holdings in 1985, and later sold to Nestlé. Allen's is the top brand of sugar confectionery in Australia.
