Allan (song)

"Allan" is a 1988 song recorded by French singer-songwriter Mylène Farmer from her second album Ainsi soit je.... It was the first single from her first live album En Concert and was released in December 1989. The lyrics clearly refer to a fairly tale by Edgar Allan Poe as they mentioned one of his characters. Although the single met success in discothèques, its sales remained relatively low in comparison with Farmer's other singles.

Background and lyrics

The song "Allan" was chosen as the first single from the 1989 concert before the live album En Concert was released. Unlike Farmer's previous singles, the B-side of the vinyl was not another live song, but the first version of "Psychiatric" (the 'new beat remix'), which appeared two years later on the album "L'Autre...".

"Allan" is a tribute to Edgar Allan Poe, an American poet, that Farmer is very appreciative and that she has evoked in many interviews. One verse of the song containing the word "Ligeia" which refers to the name of Poe's fairy tale published in 1837 in the review The American Museum. Farmer also sings "Pauvres poupées / Qui vont qui viennent", which is an excerpt from "Ligeia".

Allan (footballer, born 1991)

Allan Marques Loureiro (born 8 January 1991), better known as Allan is a Brazilian footballer who plays for Italian club Napoli. He operates primarily as a defensive midfielder and central midfielder and is comfortable at playing both in attack and defence and is equally comfortable being deployed deep or as a playmaker.

Normally a defensive midfielder, Allan is known as a dynamic midfielder with good ball winning skills. He also possesses good dribbling skills, pace and good long passing ability. He has been described as different from traditional defensive midfielder, due to his reputation for dribbling past defenders and passing through the legs of a defender.

Allan has dual citizenship and also holds a Portuguese passport which makes him eligible to be counted as an EU player.

Early life

Allan Marques Loureiro was born on 8 January 1991 in Rio de Janeiro Brazil.

He started his career in the youth system of his local Rio de Janeiro club Madureira then went on loan to play for the youth of fellow Rio de Janeiro club Vasco da Gama where his talent was picked up by scouts of Uruguayan side Deportivo Maldonado and was signed by Deportivo Maldonado to join their youth ranks but never got to play for Deportivo Maldonado youth or first team cause Vasco da Gama requested him again on loan to play for their first team.

Poe (mascot)

Poe is the mascot of the Baltimore Ravens of the National Football League He is named after the famous writer and Baltimore, Maryland resident, Edgar Allan Poe.

Poe's brothers

When originally unveiled, Poe was one of three costumed mascots, all raven brothers named "Edgar", "Allan", and "Poe". Because the Baltimore Ravens were named after the poem "The Raven" by Baltimore resident Edgar Allan Poe, it was natural to name their mascots after Poe. The three not only commemorated the famous Baltimore poet, but also represented three completely different personalities and their stereotypical relation to certain types of NFL players.

According to the back story, Edgar was the first to hatch. Edgar was tall and broad shouldered, representing the "backfield" or the players of the game routinely not staged on the line of scrimmage. This represented the linebacker, defensive back, fullback, quarterback, etc. Edgar was decidedly proud, if not arrogant, and was the leader of the trio.

Allan was particularly shorter and thinner than Edgar and especially Poe, yet much quicker. He represented the receivers and running backs. Allan was a very excitable bird who always had energy to spare.

Ming or Song is a category of typefaces used to display Chinese characters, which are used in the Chinese, Japanese, and Korean languages. They are currently the most common style of type in print for Chinese and Japanese.

Name

The names Song (or Sung) and Ming correspond to the Song Dynasty when a distinctive printed style of regular script was developed, and the Ming Dynasty during which that style developed into the Ming typeface style. In Mainland China, the most common name is Song (the Mainland Chinese standardized Ming typeface in Microsoft Windows being named SimSun). In Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan and Korea, Ming is prevalent.
