Alla may refer to:
Alla (Russian: А́лла) is a Russian and Slavic female given name.
The Orthodox Christian Church usually relates the name with Saint Alla, the widow of a Gothic chieftain, martyred in King Athanaric's times. Since the name is also spread among Tatars, there is some speculation that the name has its origin in the pre-Islamic goddess Allat. The name Alla is also widespread in Iceland.
"Alla" (Greek: Άλλα; English: Other) is a song by Swedish singer Sofia and was her entrant in Sweden's Eurovision Song Contest selection process Melodifestivalen. The song is sung entirely in Greek and won the international jury vote at the contest, gaining it a spot in the final, where it ended up placing tenth of eleven. The song was released in Sweden and will also be released in Greece, with the possibility of both English and Swedish versions being produced.
After having taken part in the Swedish Melodifestivalen 2007 with "Hypnotized" and releasing the CD single "Pote" (Never) in Greece and Sweden, Sofia once again took part in the contest to select Sweden's Eurovision Song Contest entrant in 2009. For her second appearance, she chose to sing the song "Alla", sung in Greek. In an interview, Sofia said that she wanted to perform the song in Greek because she likes the language and because it was originally written in Greek and therefore should be performed that way. Writer Dimitri Stassos spoke about the song in an interview with Eurovision news website ESCToday saying:
Gor /ˈɡɔːr/ is the parallel universe Counter-Earth setting for John Norman's extended series of sword and planet novels inspired particularly by Barsoom series and Almuric but also known for its content combining philosophy, erotica, and science fiction. The series has been variably referred to by publishers with several names including The Chronicles of Counter-Earth (Ballantine Books), The Saga of Tarl Cabot (DAW Books), Gorean Cycle (Tandem Books), Gorean Chronicles (Masquerade Books), Gorean Saga (Open Road Media), and The Counter-Earth Saga (DAW Books, for novels with a protagonist other than Tarl Cabot) whereas they are known popularly and in reverence as The Scrolls in the fandom. The customs, terminology and imagery depicted in these books inspired a Gorean subculture, with lifestyle adherents online and off. The science fiction inspired books have taken in influences from alternate genres, such as fantasy novels and other works.
