"All I Need" is a 1967 hit single recorded by The Temptations for the Gordy (Motown) label. It is the group's first single to be produced by Norman Whitfield's protégé Frank Wilson. Written by Wilson, Edward Holland, Jr. and R. Dean Taylor, the single was a Top 10 hit on the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at number 8; it was also a number-two hit on the Billboard R&B singles chart.
David Ruffin, the Temptations main lead singer, serves as the songs narrator. In it he's begging his lover to forgive his unfaithfulness and mistreatment of her, telling her how guilty he feels about it and that he'll make it up to her. The recordings beat is very similar to the songs written and produced by Holland-Dozier-Holland, Motown's main songwriting team (of which Holland was a part of).
The single is the first not to be produced by the group's main producer Norman Whitfield since Get Ready, as Whitfield produced their releases starting with the following single. And due to Whitfield maintaining an iron grip on his creative control over The Temptations' released material, it would also be the last until the singles where they're teamed with Diana Ross and the Supremes in 1968.
All I Need is the second studio album by English singer and songwriter Foxes, released on 5 February 2016.
Foxes started work on the album in January 2015 in Los Angeles. Commenting on the album's direction, Foxes said "I was inspired a lot more with this record with stripping things back and making it a lot more emotional. I didn't want to do a concept album, I always like it when I can write from a diary in a way. It's quite an emotional album. It's got elements from the first one, but it's definitely not as produced. The tracks feel a lot more vocal [with] piano and strings. It's still cinematic in ways but I'm a lot more honest on this record this time around, which is quite a scary thing to be." She has also said that the album was inspired by relationships. The album was originally scheduled to be released in October of 2015 but the album was pushed back to 5 February 2016 so it could be released worldwide.
All I Need received generally positive reviews from music critics. At Metacritic, which assigns a normalized rating out of 100 to reviews from mainstream critics, the album has an average score of 69 out of 100, which indicates "generally favorable reviews" based on 8 reviews.
"All I Need" is a power ballad written by Sharon den Adel and Robert Westerholt for Within Temptation's fourth studio album The Heart of Everything (2007).
In an interview, Within Temptation vocalist Sharon den Adel discussed "All I Need":
The video for this single was shot on 30 September in Berlin. It was released online on 19 October 2007. The video consists of a dream world in the mind of Sharon's character. The band is shown tied to walls of their cells, along with various surrealistic scenes. In the end of the video Sharon is shown in a hospital bed with images from the dream sequence flickering on a screen connected to her mind via wires.
In an interview, den Adel discussed some elements of the video:
Lea: It's you in a hospital-bed there...
Sharon: Yeah, and they are monitoring my dreams, so they are analysing what I'm dreaming. And that's basically the video and it just suited best with the lyrics, because it's very difficult to express things which are very symbolic, which you can't really show in images like "hope". How do you express "hope", you know? Or "believe in something" or "keeping something real" or "people who are fake". You can image that very well in a way of a dream. That's why we did it in that way.
All I Need is the debut studio album from General Hospital star Jack Wagner. Quincy Jones protegé Glen Ballard (who would go on to write with and produce Wilson Phillips six years later, and have massive success in the 1990s with Alanis Morissette's Jagged Little Pill) and Clif Magness (who also worked in a musical context with Ballard on Wilson Phillips' debut album) oversaw the project, co-writing some of the material as well as playing some instruments. Despite an ability to play guitar, and despite playing in several live shoots for the title track, Wagner himself only sang on the disc.
The album featured a huge hit in the title track, which climbed all the way to number two and stayed there for two weeks; it was also a number one AC hit for two weeks. Rare for the time it was released, "All I Need" was notable in that the song was able to climb the charts while not having the assistance of an accompanying music video. For the album's second single, "Premonition", a music video was made and it debuted on NBC's Friday Night Videos in January, 1985. A third and final single, "Lady of My Heart", was released in the spring of 1985 and reached #76 on the Billboard Hot 100. "Lady of My Heart" is notable for being used on General Hospital as the love theme of Wagner's character Frisco and Felicia (played by Kristina Malandro). Wagner would later marry Malandro and have two children together, Peter and Harrison.
