Cut Copy
Cut Copy (sometimes stylised Cut/Copy) are an Australian electronic band formed in 2001 by DJ Dan Whitford (vocals, keyboards and guitar). Initially a home-recording project, the band now includes Tim Hoey (guitars), Ben Browning (bass guitar) and Mitchell Scott (drums). So far they have released four studio albums, an EP and a number of singles and remixes, all on Modular Recordings. They achieved breakthrough success in 2008 with their second album, In Ghost Colours. Some of their most well-known singles include "Lights & Music", "Hearts on Fire" and "Take Me Over".
History
Formation
Cut Copy was established in 2001 in Melbourne, Australia as the solo project of Dan Whitford, a DJ and graphic designer. Whitford was educated at Scotch College, Melbourne and studied graphic design at Monash University. During his studies he became interested in dance music and began DJing while hosting a radio-show. Around this time he bought a sampler and keyboards to experiment with. Musically he was "inspired by indie low-fi stuff as much as dance". Upon graduating Whitford co-founded the design-agency Alter, who continue to produce all of the graphical material for the band. Whitford began producing music at his home-studio and submitted a demo-tape to Modular Recordings, who subsequently signed him sometime in the first half of 2001. He enlisted the help of veteran guitarist Harry Howard to record the debut single "1981", which was released on vinyl only.
Alisa
Alisa (Russian: Алиса) is a Russian hard rock band, who are credited as one of the most influential bands in the Russian rock movement.
Biography
Alisa was formed in November 1983 by bassist Svyatoslav Zadery. The band's name originated from Zadery nickname. The band's lineup was finally completed in 1984, when new vocalist Kostya Kinchev (real name Konstantin Panfilov) and guitarist Petr Samoylov joined. Their debut album Energia was released by state publishing monopoly Melodiya and sold more than a million copies.
But the relations between two leaders, Konstantin and Zadery, were deteriorating, and finally Svyatoslav departed from the band. This occurred just one hour before Alisa was to perform at a concert. Alisa had to ask Kino bassist Igor Tihomirov to replace him for one concert. Later Zadery created his own band Nateh! (Russian: НАТЕ! - "Take that!"). Zadery died on 6 May 2011 due to complications from a stroke at the age of 50.
The growing popularity of the band created a fan community called the Army of Alisa, known for their rough behaviour at concerts. It led to animosity between the band and Soviet officials. In 1987, the newspaper Smena accused Alisa's leader Kinchev of Nazi propaganda and worshiping Hitler. Kinchev filed a suit for calumny and moral loss compensation. After the year-long court process the magazine published the refutation. Alisa's next album was titled Article 206 part 2, a chapter ("Hooliganism") of the USSR Procedural Code, alluding to this process.

1984–91
Alisa was formed in 1984 by Miroslav "Pile" Živanović (a former Zvučni Zid and Jedan Smer member, vocals), Predrag Cvetković (a former member of Slađana Milošević's backing band Ljudi member, drums), Aleksandar Kićanović (keyboards), Zoran Jančeski (a former Sedmi Krug member, guitar), and Marko Glavan (a former BG5 member, bass guitar). They released their debut self-titled album in 1985. All the songs were written by the keyboardist Jovan Stoiljković, leader of Živanović's former band Zvučni Zid, some of them during the 1970s while Stoiljković was the leader of the band Bicikl. Stoiljković decided not to become an official member of Alisa, but rather an author of Alisa's fairy tales-inspired songs. Although poorly produced, album brought hits "Sanja" and "Vojskovođa" ("Warlord") that made Alisa teen stars in Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. The album featured Saša Gnus on flute and saxophone as special guest.
