Alfred M. Cook

Alfred M. Cook (October 4, 1850 – January 20, 1921) was an American farmer, businessman, and politician.

Born in Lloydtown, Ontario, Canada, Cook moved with parents to Calumet County, Wisconsin and went to high school in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. He moved to Unity, Wisconsin and was a farmer and in the lumber business. He served as chairman of the Brighton, Wisconsin Town Board and as director of the local high school in Unity. Cook was the postmaster in Unity. In 1901, Cook served in the Wisconsin State Assembly and was a Republican. He died in Marshfield, Wisconsin.

Cook (crater)

Cook is a lunar crater that lies in the western part of the Mare Fecunditatis, just to the southeast of the prominent crater Colombo. To the southwest is Monge.

The interior of this crater has been flooded with lava, leaving only a low rim projecting above the surface. This rim is not quite circular, and has a somewhat hexagonal appearance. The low wall is worn in a few places, particularly along the northeastern rim. There is a tiny craterlet called Cook A on the interior floor near the southeast rim.

By convention these features are identified on lunar maps by placing the letter on the side of the crater midpoint that is closest to Cook.

USS Donald Cook (DDG-75)

USS Donald Cook (DDG-75) is an Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyer in the United States Navy.

Named for Donald Cook, a Vietnam War prisoner of war who died in captivity, the destroyer was commissioned in 1998. It was one of the first U.S. warships to come to the aid of USS Cole after it was damaged by suicide bombers on 12 October 2000. In 2003, the ship fired Tomahawk missiles during Operation Iraqi Freedom.

On 16 February 2012, Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus announced Donald Cook will be one of four ships to be homeported at Naval Station Rota, Spain. It was announced in January 2014 that the ship would arrive there in mid-February 2014. In Rota she forms part of Destroyer Squadron 60.

On 24 February 2012, Donald Cook was awarded the 2011 Battle Efficiency "E" award.

Alfred (Dvořák)

Alfred is a heroic opera in three acts by the Czech composer Antonín Dvořák. It was Dvořák's first opera and the only one he composed to a German text. The libretto, by Karl Theodor Korner, had already been set by Friedrich von Flotow (as Alfred der Große) and is based on the story of the English king Alfred the Great. Composed in 1870, Alfred was never performed during Dvořák's lifetime. It received its premiere (in Czech translation) at the City Theatre, Olomouc on 10 December 1938.

The opera was performed for the first time with its original German libretto on 17 September 2014, in Prague.

A Cassadine ancestor that lived in the 1800s. Prior to going to war he had a bracelet made for his wife that symbolized the love that he pledged to her forever. He was killed in the war, but his wife never remarried and for 60 years she wore his bracelet. The bracelet was smuggled out of St. Petersburg in the 1900s in the lining of a bodice belonging to a Cassadine woman. Legend holds that when a Cassadine gives a woman that bracelet, he gives her his heart. Nikolas Cassadine gave the bracelet to Emily Quartermaine in 2003.
