ALF (video game)

ALF (アルフ), is an action-adventure video game developed by Nexa and released by Sega for the Sega Master System in 1989. It is based on the American television series ALF. Players control the titular character as he attempts to locate parts with which to repair his spaceship, so he can meet up with his friends Skip and Rhonda on the planet Mars.

The game is the only home console game based on the ALF television show. Other ALF games have been released for various computer systems, including ALF: The First Adventure, the first ALF game. A couple of edutainment games based on the character were also released in later years: ALF's US Geography and ALF's Thinking Skills.

Gameplay

ALF is an action-adventure video game. The player controls ALF, who must collect the necessary items and solve puzzles to repair ALF's spaceship.

The game features several locations through which players can roam freely: Alf's house, street, basement of the house, ALF's backyard and a pond in the backyard. As in any quest for the passing game must collect various objects: a stick of salami, which can be used to deal with the bats, scuba gear, allowing him to plunge to the bottom of the pond, among other things. Items can be found as the game progresses and some can be purchased through the in-game store.

Alf (album)

Alf is the debut solo studio album of British singer-songwriter Alison Moyet, her first since leaving early 1980s synthpop duo Yazoo (also known as Yaz). Released on 9 November 1984, the album, which took its title from the singer's nickname, went to No. 1 on both the UK and New Zealand album charts and includes three hit singles; "Love Resurrection", "Invisible" and "All Cried Out".

The summer of 1985 saw the release of the non-album single "That Ole Devil Called Love", originally performed by Billie Holiday in the 1940s, in some European territories followed by a remixed version of "For You Only".

In 2006, "Love Resurrection" appeared in the popular video game Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories. The song can be heard on a fictional pop/rock/New Wave radio station called Flash FM.

Alleged Lunatics' Friend Society

The Alleged Lunatics' Friend Society was an advocacy group started by former asylum patients and their supporters in 19th century Britain. The Society campaigned for greater protection against wrongful confinement or cruel and improper treatment, and for reform of the lunacy laws. The Society is recognized today as a pioneer of the psychiatric survivors movement.

Background

There was concern in the United Kingdom in the 19th century about wrongful confinement in private madhouses, or asylums, and the mistreatment of patients, with tales of such abuses appearing in newspapers and magazines. The Madhouses Act 1774 had introduced a process of certification and a system for licensing and inspecting private madhouses, but had been ineffectual in reducing abuses or allaying public anxiety. Doctors in the 19th century were establishing themselves as arbiters of sanity but were reliant on subjective diagnoses and tended to equate insanity with eccentric or immoral behaviour. Public suspicion of their motives was also aroused by the profits that were made from private madhouses.

Andra (novel)

Andra is a 1971 science fiction novel, the first novel by English writer Louise Lawrence. In 1976 it was made into a children's television program by ABC Television.

Plot

The book was set 2000 years from now, after the world was destroyed by war leaving the earth knocked off its rotation and the ground above to become a desolate frozen wasteland with everyone that survived living below the ground in underground cities.

The main story revolves around Andra, a teenage girl who has a terrible accident and has to have a brain graft operation to survive. However, the only donor available was a young man that lived and died in 1987. After the operation her life is totally changed; she becomes a rebel, fighting against the rigid laws that rule society underground in Sub City One and the totalitarian authority that rules over life and death of any individual.

Andra (television program)

The book was adapted into an Australian children's program and released on 8 September 1976 by the ABC-TV. The Andra TV series (8 x 30 minute episodes) is unique amongst such shows as to have been created on such as small budget that in the background, in crowd scenes, the 'crowd' is actually made up of store clothing dummies. The sets, instead of containing items of furniture, or other articles, are large white blocks piled up on each other.
