Eraserheads (sometimes stylized as ERASƎRHEADS) is a Filipino rock band formed in 1989. Consisting of Ely Buendia, Marcus Adoro, Buddy Zabala and Raimund Marasigan, the band became one of the most successful, most influential, critically acclaimed, and significant bands in the Philippine music history. Eraserheads are also credited for spearheading a second wave of Manila band invasions, paving the way for a host of Philippine alternative rock bands.
The band released several singles, albums, and EPs that reached number one and achieved commercial success with their third album Cutterpillow, which achieved platinum status several times. They received the Viewer's Choice Award for Asia from the 1997 MTV Video Music Awards.
In 1989, two college bands from the University of the Philippines, Diliman were both in search of new members for a new group. Curfew, which consisted of Buddy Zabala on bass, Raimund Marasigan on drums and Marcus Adoro on guitars met up with Sunday School, which consisted of Ely Buendia on vocals and Raimund as session drummer in December of the same year. Ely's first two college bands, Bluidie Tryste and Sunday School, were too unstable, so he posted an audition notice on a university message board. Only Raimund, Buddy, and Marcus showed up at the audition. According to an interview with myx, Raimund said he first auditioned as bassist while Buddy as drummer. But they noticed that it did not sound right, the two switched places.
"Alapaap" (English: Skies) is a song by the Eraserheads from the album Circus. The song was the band's ninth hit single and the fourth hit single from the album. The song has been covered by 6cyclemind twice (in 2005 with Ney Dimaculangan and 2012 with Tutti Caringal). The song starts with a bass riff by Buddy Zabala.
Senator Vicente Sotto III called for the banning of "Alapaap" from airplay, claiming that the song is drug oriented. The band, however, replied to the allegations through a letter to the lawmaker.
The band performed the song in their historical reunion concert last August 30, 2008 as an opening song.
The band last performed the song in their Final Set concert last March 7, 2009 wherein they played the song in a different rendition.
May isang umaga, na tayo'y magsasama
Haya at halina sa alapaap
O, anong sarap, haa...
Hanggang sa dulo ng mundo
Hanggang maubos ang ubo
Hanggang gumulong ang luha
Hanggang mahulog ang tala
Chorus:
Masdan mo ang aking mata
'Di mo ba nakikita
Ako ngayo'y lumilipad at nasa langit na
Gusto mo bang sumama?
Hindi mo na kailangan ang magtago't mahiya
Hindi mo na kailangan humanap ng iba
Kalimutan lang muna
Ang lahat ng problema
Huminga ka ng malalim at tayo'y lalarga na
Handa na bang gumala
Adlib:
Pap-pa-rap... pap-pa-rap-pa.
Pa pa pa pa (papapapa...)
La-la-la... oooh hoo hoo...
Ang daming bawal sa mundo
(Ang daming bawal sa mundo)
Sinasakal nila tayo
(Sinasakal nila tayo)
Buksan ang puso at isipan
(Buksan ang puso at isipan)
Paliparin ang kamalayan
(Paliparin)
Chorus 2:
Masdan mo ang aking mata
'Di mo ba nakikita
Ako'y lumilipad at nasa alapaap na
Gusto mo bang sumama?
Gusto mo bang (gusto mo bang)
Gusto mo bang (gusto mo bang)
Gusto mo bang (gusto mo bang)
Gusto mo bang (gusto mo bang)
Gusto mo bang (gusto mo bang)
Gusto mo bang (gusto mo bang)
Gusto mo bang (gusto mo bang)
Gusto mo bang (gusto mo bang)
