Alan Kennedy

Alan Kennedy (born 31 August 1954) is an English former footballer who played as a left back. Active as a professional in England, Denmark, Belgium and Wales, Kennedy made over 500 appearances in a career that lasted for 22 years. He also represented England at senior international level.

He is the uncle of current professional footballer Tom Kennedy.

Career

Born in Sunderland, Kennedy played club football in England, Denmark, Belgium and Wales for Newcastle United, Liverpool, Sunderland, Wigan Athletic, Hartlepool United, B 1903, Beerschot, Northwich Victoria, Wrexham, Colne Dynamoes, Morecambe, Netherfield, Radcliffe Borough and Barrow.

Kennedy became the first player to score winning goals in two European Cup finals with goals in the 1981 and 1984 finals.

He also earned two caps for the England national team in 1984.

Robert Alan Kennedy is emeritus professor of Psychology at the University of Dundee, and research associate at the Laboratoire de Psychologie et Neurosciences Cognitives of Paris Descartes University, Boulogne-Billancourt, France. He carries out research into eye movement control in reading and the viewing of static and moving images and is the author of over 100 journal articles.

Education

Educated at King Edward VI Grammar School, Stourbridge, Kennedy was one of three brothers at the school, all of whom had academic careers. His older brother Stuart Charles Kennedy (1936–1999), was a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons and his younger brother Ian McColl Kennedy, is a fellow of the British Academy.

Kennedy obtained an undergraduate degree in English Literature and Psychology at the University of Birmingham and won a research scholarship to complete a PhD in Psychology at the Institute of Education, University of Birmingham.

Career

From 1963 to 1965, Kennedy was Senior Tutor and then Lecturer in Psychology at the University of Melbourne and then from 1965–1968, Lecturer then Senior Lecturer in Psychology at St. Andrews University.

Alan Kennedy (born 1986 in Glanmire, County Cork) is an Irish sportsperson. He plays hurling with his local club Sarsfield's and has been a member of the Cork senior inter-county team since 2009 when he was called up due to the 2008-2009 Cork Hurlers strike.
