Alanïa

Alanïa is a former Norwegian electronic music group from Tromsø, composed of Torbjørn Brundtland and Svein Berge of Röyksopp, Rune Lindbæk and Gaute Barlindhaug.

History

Lindbæk and Brundtland were officially the main members of the group, but Berge and Barlindhaug were notable contributors. Almost all music was made by Brundtland, Berge and Barlindhaug. They have released the albums Instinctive Travels (1996) on Parlophone and Skyjuice (1997) on Drum Island Records. The group dissolved in 1997, and Berge and Brundtland started Röyksopp in 1998.

Critics have said that the music has a "unique, polar mood" and that the skill level of the productions "makes it very nice to be Norwegian, and make you wish that Tromsø was your hometown".

Alan A.

Alan A. (born Alan Audrain on 8 January), is a London-based French singer-songwriter. He released in 2009 his first album Ambiguity, followed by an advent calendar album called Advent in 2012. He is currently working on his third album Astray, due end 2014, from which he will be releasing singles beforehand.

Early life

Alan A. was born in Nantes, France and was raised in Notre-Dame-des-Landes, by his father Christian and mother Marie-Madeleine along with sisters Chrystèle and Nathalie. His whole family, apart from his father who died in 2001, still lives there.

He studied in nearby town Blain, Loire-Atlantique and started taking singing lessons when he was 16. After completing his Baccalauréat, he moved to the nearby city of Nantes, where he studied English and American Language and Literature for a year. He then moved first to Paris and then to London, UK in 2004, working in department store Selfridges, and several restaurants and bars.

Since the premiere of the children's television program Sesame Street on November 10, 1969, it has included what writer Malcolm Gladwell has called "the essence of Sesame Street—the artful blend of fluffy monsters and earnest adults". The original cast, chosen by producer Jon Stone, consisted of four human actors—Matt Robinson, who played Gordon; Loretta Long, who played Gordon's wife, Susan; Will Lee, who played Mr. Hooper; and Bob McGrath, who played Bob. Unlike most children's television programs at the time, the producers of Sesame Street decided against using a single host and cast a group of ethnically diverse actors, with, as Sesame Street researcher Gerald S. Lesser put it, "a variety of distinctive and reliable personalities".

Stone did not audition actors until spring 1969, a few weeks before five shows, designed to test the show's appeal to children and to examine their comprehension of the material, were due to be filmed. Stone videotaped the auditions, and researcher Ed Palmer took them out into the field to test children's reactions. The actors who received the "most enthusiastic thumbs up" were cast. For example, when the children saw Long's audition, they stood up and sang along with her rendition of "I'm a Little Teapot". As Stone said, casting was the only aspect of the show that was "just completely haphazard". Most of the cast and crew found jobs on Sesame Street through personal relationships with Stone and the other producers.

Alan Dawa Dolma (Tibetan: ཨ་ལན་ཟླ་བ་སྒྲོལ་མ་, ZYPY: Alain Dawazhoima ; simplified Chinese: 阿兰·达瓦卓玛; traditional Chinese: 阿蘭·達瓦卓瑪; pinyin: Ālán Dáwǎzhuómǎ; born on July 25, 1987), professionally known as Alan (stylized as alan or aLan) (Japanese: アラン, simplified Chinese: 阿兰; traditional Chinese: 阿蘭), is a female Chinese singer active in both Chinese and Japanese music industry. She is of Tibetan ethnicity.

Discovered by Avex Trax at an audition in China in 2006, she made her debut in Japan the following year. Her main producer and composer is Kazuhito Kikuchi and she is also known for playing the erhu.

In 2009, her ninth Japanese single "Kuon no Kawa" debuted at No.3 on the Oricon weekly charts, the highest ever by a singer from China.

Biography

1987–2002: Early life

Alan is a native of Garze Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture in Sichuan province, and her native language is Kham Ke, one of the Tibetan dialects.

Alan was born in Kangding to a large family; her father had ten siblings and her mother had eight. She grew up with her grandparents in nearby Danba, often referred to as "Beauty Valley". The name "Alan", which is in fact her official surname, is a self-created shortened form of a combination of the sinified Tibetan names of her parents Atu and Lantai. Her given name "Dawa Dolma" was bestowed upon her by a Buddhist monk and means "Heavenly maiden of the moon" in Tibetan. Alan's father was a local government official and her mother was a singer in the local Art Troupe.
