Al Jamila

Al Jamila is an Arabic monthly women's magazine, published in Dubai. It is one of the publications of the Saudi Research and Marketing Group.

History and ownership

Al Jamila was firstly launched in London and then, in Riyadh in October 1994. The magazine was relocated from London to Dubai in 2005.

It is one of the magazines published by Saudi Research and Publishing Company, a subsidiary of Saudi Research and Marketing Group (SRMG). SRMG also owns other magazines such as Sayidaty, The Majalla, Urdu Magazine and Hia as well as newspapers such as Arab News, Al Eqtisadiah, Urdu News and Asharq al Awsat.

Mohammed Fahad Al Harthi is the editor-in-chief of the magazine, who has been in this post since 2004. He is also editor-in-chief of Sayidaty.

Al Jamila mainly involves news on beauty and health, and offers its readers in-depth articles about the latest make-up looks, beauty products and treatments as well as news on health and fitness.

Readership

It is reported by Al Khaleejiah in 2011 that Al Jamila is read 89.7% by females and 10.3% by males. It is further indicated that female readers of the magazine are those between 18 and 29 years old. Therefore, the target audience of the magazine is teenagers and young adult women in Saudi Arabia and other Arab countries.

Nadhi Karaiyinile

Nadhi Karaiyinile is a 2003 Tamil drama film, written and directed by Ponvannan. The film, which had an initial release at international film festivals with the title Jameela, stars Suvalakshmi, Rajan P. Dev and Ramji in the lead roles. The music for the film was composed by Sirpy and the film opened to positive reviews in November 2003, after several delays.

Ponvannan's second directorial venture, Jameela (2003), featuring Suvalakshmi, Rajan P. Dev and Ramji, told the story of an ego clash between two men which ruins the life of an obedient woman. Ponvannan had been impressed with writer Sara Abubakar's novel and bought the script rights, before submitting his screenplay to National Film Development Corporation of India to finance the film. The agency agreed and Jameela was shot for seventeen days in Pondicherry at a cost of 35 lakh rupees.

Jamila (doll)

Jamila (English: beautiful) is the name of a fashion doll marketed to children in the Middle East. Challenging the already extant leading Muslim fashion doll Fulla, the 11.5 inch Jamila was launched by Simba Toys Middle East in October 2006.

History

Starting off as a single but truly Arabic doll with dark-hair, thick eyebrows and brown eyes, Jamila was launched wearing the traditional black Abaya. Accompanied by her two best female friends and her soon-to-be husband Jamil she hit the market with an exclusive point-of-sale promotion in Carrefour outlets throughout the Middle East. Since its launch the range of items has increased not only by girl's accessories and doll's clothing, single items of the Jamila brand have also become available at other retail outlets.

Besides her original definition as a self-confident, young Arabic woman with typical female fashion fads, Jamila now got married and also shows her caring attitude towards her family. She is therefore not only joined by her husband Jamil but also by their two little babies Asad and Almira.
