Ajit, variously spelled Ajith, Agith, Ajay, Aje or Ajeet (Sanskrit: अजित ajita) is a common male given name. It is used in its various forms throughout India and also in Nepal, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
The name is derived from Sanskrit, where its primary meaning is "invincible", "irresistible", "unsurpassed". The literal meaning is "unconquered", from the prefix a- "not", and jita "conquered". It has variously been used to refer to a number of mythological figures, including Shiva and Vishnu in Hinduism, Maitreya in Buddhism and the second of the Arhats in Jainism among others.
Ajith Kumar (born 1 May 1971) is an Indian film actor working predominantly in Tamil cinema. He has won three Filmfare Best Actor Awards, all for films which showcased him in multiple roles. In addition to his acting, Ajith, in a sabbatical, participated in the 2004 British Formula 3 season as a Formula Two racing driver and was ranked the third best motor car driver in India at his peak.
He began his career as a supporting actor in a Telugu film before gaining critical recognition in the Tamil thriller Aasai (1995), before going on to establish himself as a romantic hero with Kadhal Kottai (1996), Aval Varuvala (1998) and Kadhal Mannan (1998) being the most notable. He was later seen in method roles as in Vaali (1999), Mugavaree (2000), Kandukondain Kandukondain (2000) and Citizen (2001) before establishing himself as an action hero with popular films, including Amarkalam (1999), Dheena (2001), Attagasam (2004), Varalaru (2006), Billa (2007), Mankatha (2011), Arrambam (2013), Veeram (2014), Yennai Arindhaal (2015) and Vedalam (2015).
Ajith is a 2014 Kannada road film directed by Mahesh Babu starring Chiranjeevi Sarja and Nikki Galrani. It is a remake of the Tamil film Paiyaa. G Prem is the producer of this film with five songs in the music direction of Yuvan Shankar Raja.
The film got released across Karnataka cinema halls on 9 May 2014.
The rights of the film were sold to makers in Kannada for approx ₹20 lakh (US$29,000). While it was earlier said that Purushotham, of Modalasala fame, would helm the project, Mahesh Babu, whose last directorial outing was the Prem-starrer Prem Adda, was confirmed to direct Ajith. Mahesh Babu zeroed in on Nikki Galrani, actress Sanjjanaa's sister as the heroine. The film was launched in January 2013. The shooting began from 12 February 2013. A action shoot was held in Ravi Verma stunt direction at Hesaraghatta for which Vice Camera was used that gives 1000 frames for an action portion. The shooting was continued in Mysore, going on in Gandhi Square, which is located at the heart of the city. In June the shoot for the songs of the film happened in Bangalore.
