Air War College

The Air War College (AWC) is the senior professional military education school of the U.S. Air Force. A part of the United States Air Force's Air University, AWC emphasizes the employment of air, space, and cyberspace in joint operations. Headquartered at Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery, Alabama, its higher headquarters is Air Education and Training Command (AETC) at Randolph Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. It is one of six war colleges within the Department of Defense's Joint Professional Military Education (JPME) Phase II Education Program.

History

The Air War College was founded in 1946 by the United States War Department (subsequently merged with the Navy Department to form the Department of Defense) at what was then Maxwell Field. The college has operated continuously since its founding except for a period of six months during the Korean War. AWC operates alongside the Army War College, the Naval War College's College of Naval Warfare, the Marine Corps War College, and the National Defense University's National War College, Armed Forces Staff College (AFSC) and Industrial College of the Armed Forces (ICAF) programs within the Department of Defense's Joint Professional Military Education (JPME) Phase II Education Program.

War College

A War College is a senior military academy which is normally intended for veteran military officers and whose purpose is to educate and 'train on' senior military tacticians, strategists, and leaders. It is also often the place where advanced tactical and strategic thought is conducted, both for the purpose of developing doctrine and for the purpose of identifying implications and shifts in long-term patterns.

War College (The Salvation Army)

The Salvation Army War College was established in 2003 by Founders Majors Stephen Court and Danielle Strickland, along with Pioneers Captains Ruth and Ian Gillingham. The War College began in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada and is still its longest running campus. In 2006 a War College campus was opened in Charlotte, North Carolina, USA by Death and Glory Alumni Heather and Rob Dolby and in 2008 another in Chicago Illinois, USA by Envoys Jen and Josh Polanco. The Vancouver campus is led by Training Principal Nicole Brindle.

The War College is a one-year (including three three-month semesters and one two-month deployment) incarnational, biblically based, urban missions training college.

The mission statement of The War College is "to equip and enlist warriors to win the world for Jesus."

The Salvation Army endorses The War College on divisional, territorial and international structural schemes in personnel, finances and curriculum.

In Vancouver, students live primarily in The Empress Hotel, a 77 unit slum hotel at the Main and Hastings intersection in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside. The Downtown Eastside of Vancouver is known for its addiction, poverty and prostitution rates. Students who attend The War College identify themselves with the poor and immerse themselves in the neighbourhood.

Aerial warfare

Aerial warfare is the use of military aircraft and other flying machines in warfare. Aerial warfare includes bombers attacking enemy concentrations or strategic targets; fighter aircraft battling for control of airspace; attack aircraft engaging in close air support against ground targets; naval aviation flying against sea and nearby land targets; gliders, helicopters and other aircraft to carry airborne forces such as paratroopers; aerial refueling tankers to extend operation time or range; and military transport aircraft to move cargo and personnel. Historically, military aircraft have included lighter-than-air balloons carrying artillery observers; lighter-than-air airships for bombing cities; various sorts of reconnaissance, surveillance and early warning aircraft carrying observers, cameras and radar equipment; torpedo bombers to attack enemy shipping; and military air-sea rescue aircraft for saving downed airmen. Modern aerial warfare includes missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles. Surface forces are likely to respond to enemy air activity with anti-aircraft warfare.

Air War

"Air War" is a single by Crystal Castles. It was released on 17 December 2007 by Trouble Records as a 7" vinyl. An earlier version of the song was released in July 2006 as the B-Side to "Alice Practice" on Merok Records. The lyrics are from the James Joyce book Ulysses. The cover art gathered public interest because of the odd picture of Ethan Kath and Alice Glass with ice cream cones as heads.
