No. 12 Air Experience Flight RAF

No. 12 Air Experience Flight (AEF) is an Air Experience Flight run by the Air Cadet Organisation of the Royal Air Force.

Operational role

12 AEFs role is the teaching of basic flying to cadets of the Air Training Corps (ATC) and Combined Cadet Force (CCF) units forming part of the Edinburgh, Aberdeen and Dundee ATC Wings and CCF from the East of Scotland. It currently flies Grob Tutor T1 trainer aircraft, which it shares with East of Scotland Universities' Air Squadron.

History

12 AEF was formed on 8 September 1958 at RAF Turnhouse, Edinburgh, equipped with Chipmunk T.10 aircraft. On 1 April 1996, the unit moved its operational base to RAF Leuchars, where it became parented by East Lowlands Universities Air Squadron and retired its Chipmunks in favour of sharing ELUAS's Bulldog T.1 aircraft.

No. 10 Air Experience Flight RAF

10 Air Experience Flight (AEF) is one of twelve such units run by the Air Cadet Organisation of the Royal Air Force. It was formed in the 1950s, along with other AEFs, to teach basic flying to members of the Air Training Corps (ATC), Combined Cadet Force (CCF) (Royal Air Force) Section . It mainly flies cadets from the local wings of Cumbria and North Lancashire Wing|Cumbria and North Lancashire (the North Lancashire half only as the Cumbrian half use 11 AEF at RAF Leeming, due to the distance from RAF Woodvale), East Cheshire and South Manchester Wing, Merseyside Wing, No. 2 Welsh Wing, the East Lancashire Wing, CCF contingents and Air Scouts. It will also fly cadets on annual camp at RAF Valley, when it will sometimes send an aircraft to RAF Mona for a day to fly the cadets on camp there. This increases the chance of flying for all cadets and cuts the road journey from RAF Valley to RAF Woodvale. Air cadets and CCF sections from Northern Ireland also fly at Woodvale.

No. 8 Air Experience Flight RAF

No. 8 Air Experience Flight (8 AEF) is an Air Experience Flight based at RAF Cosford.

History

8 AEF was formed in October 1958 at Cosford, later moving to Shawbury in 1960. It then returned to Cosford in 1978, moved again to Shawbury in 1979 and finally back to Cosford, where it has remained since April 1996. From 1 April 1996 it has been parented by University of Birmingham Air Squadron, and are equipped with 5 civil registered, Grob Tutor 115EA Mk 1s which are provided and maintained by Babcock, formally VT Aerospace.

No. 8 Air Experience Flight is one of twelve Air Experience Flights run by the Air Cadet Organisation of the Royal Air Force. It was formed in the 1950s, along with the other AEFs, with the aim of teaching basic flying to members of the Air Training Corps, Combined Cadet Force (RAF Section) and occasionally, the Girls Venture Corps Air Cadets and the Air Scouts. It is based at DCAE Cosford and is used primarily and is parented by the University of Birmingham Air Squadron (UBAS).
