Aifric (Irish pronunciation: [æfʲrʲɪc]) is an Irish-language TV series aimed at young adults, directed, co-created and co-written by Paul Mercier.
The first of the weekly thirteen-part series began broadcasting on 31 October 2006, the date of TG4's tenth anniversary.
The series follows the life of Aifric whose wacky family have just moved to a new town in the West of Ireland. The 14yr old wants nothing more than to fit in but feels her family will not make it easy for her. Her mother is a new-age hippy who has banned television, while her father is a wannabe rock star, not to mention her annoying little brother.
As well as on TG4, Aifric is also shown on BBC Alba, where it is dubbed in Scottish Gaelic.
Aifric (Middle Irish Affraic) is an Irish language female given name. Affraic is attested as a name borne by women of Gaelic background, between the 8th and 15th centuries. Described as "now very rare" in 1923, it has been revived somewhat in Ireland as part of a general increase in the use of Irish-language names.
"Oh Africa"
(with Keri Hilson)
Oh Africa...
I know that we have to take it to the goal 'cause everyone's depending on we
See we ain't got nowhere to go but up, it's our destiny
We're choosing the way, we'll do what it takes to get to the top of the highest mountain
We'll do anything, we got to prove ourselves 'cause we know
Oh Africa...
See we'll never be able to forget this day 'cause it's the greatest day of our life
See no matter what happens at least we can say "we came, we saw, we tried"
We're choosing nowhere, we'll do what it takes to get to the top of the highest mountain
We'll do anything, we got to prove ourselves 'cause we know
Oh Africa...
This is our time to shine, our time to fly, our time to be inside the sky
Our time to soar, our time to saw, the last one in football
