"Aïcha" is the name of a song written by the French singer songwriter Jean-Jacques Goldman. The title refers to an Arabic female name. The song was originally performed by Algerian raï artist Khaled. The original French single was never released in an album, though Khaled's 1996 album Sahra featured a bilingual version of the song sung in both French and Arabic. The Arabic lyrics for the bilingual version of the song are written by Khaled. Khaled's music video was directed by Sarah Moon.
The song's lyrics are about a woman named Aïcha, who is being wooed by a man. He promises her pearls, jewels, poems, and other luxuries and romantic things, to which she replies:
The song's chorus has the following words in French (with English translation):
The lyrics were all in French. The Arabic verse by Khaled (his own composition) added later is as follows:
In 2002, the Danish hip hop band, Outlandish, recorded and released an English version of the song "Aicha" that was included in their album Bread & Barrels of Water and was produced and musically performed by Mintman (Carsten Mortensen). The song peaked at #2 in the Mega Single Top 100 for two weeks and for three weeks in the Swedish Singles Chart. It also reached the top in Switzerland, and #3 in Austria and Norway, and #8 in Belgium. A video was also shot for the single.
Enema of the State is the third studio album by American rock band Blink-182. Produced by Jerry Finn, the album was released on June 1, 1999 by MCA Records. After a long series of performances at various clubs and festivals and several indie recordings throughout the 1990s, Blink-182 first achieved popularity on the Warped Tour and in Australia following the release of their sophomore effort Dude Ranch (1997) and its rock radio hit "Dammit". To record their third album, Blink-182 turned to veteran punk rock producer Jerry Finn, who previously worked on Green Day's breakthrough album, Dookie (1994). Enema was the band's first album to feature drummer Travis Barker, who replaced original drummer Scott Raynor.
The group recorded with Finn over a period of three months at numerous locations in their hometown of San Diego and Los Angeles. Finn was key in producing the fast-paced, melodic mixes, creating pop punk with a more radio-friendly, accessible polish. Lyrically, the album is inspired by adolescent frustration and relationships. Guitarist Tom DeLonge and bassist Mark Hoppus primarily culled stories from friends and autobiographical situations to craft summery tracks revolving around breakups, suburban parties and maturity, as well as more offbeat subject matter such as UFO conspiracy theories. The cover artwork for Enema of the State features porn star Janine Lindemulder famously clad in a nurse uniform, and the title is a pun on the term enemy of the state.
The Mark, Tom & Travis Show: The Enema Strikes Back is a live album by the American rock band Blink-182. Produced by Jerry Finn, the album was released on November 7, 2000 through MCA Records. Recorded over two nights at performances in the band's home of California in November 1999, The Mark, Tom and Travis Show (The Enema Strikes Back!) primarily features songs from the band's third album, Enema of the State (1999), as well as selected tracks from previous albums Dude Ranch (1997) and Cheshire Cat (1995).
"Man Overboard", a studio version of a track originally considered (but not recorded) for the band's Enema of the State album, accompanies the release and was issued as its lead single, peaking at number two on Billboard's Modern Rock Tracks chart. Although the album was promoted as a limited edition release, the record came back into print in 2006 due to popular demand.
The Mark, Tom & Travis Show: The Enema Strikes Back was recorded at Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in San Francisco, California and November 5, 1999 at Universal Amphitheatre in Universal City, California on the group's Loserkids Tour. The colorful, cartoonish album artwork contains several characters illustrated on previous Blink-182 releases, including aliens, the dancing bunny, wizards and a caricature of Enema of the State cover model Janine Lindemulder alongside caricatures of bassist Mark Hoppus, guitarist Tom DeLonge and drummer Travis Barker. The LP was initially meant to be a strictly limited-edition release (although one million copies were pressed), but nonetheless, the album came back into print in 2006 due to popular demand.
