Agni (Sanskrit: अग्नि Agni), pronounced " ăgˈnē ", is the Rigvedic deity of fire and the conveyor of sacrifices to the Gods. He is also a god of divine knowledge, who leads man to the gods. He was one of the most important of the Vedic gods.
The word agni is Sanskrit for "fire" (noun), cognate with Latin ignis (the root of English ignite), Russian огонь (ogon), Polish "ogień", Slovenian "ogenj", Serbian oganj, and Lithuanian ugnis—all with the meaning "fire", with the reconstructed Proto-Indo-European root being h₁égni-. Agni has three forms: 'fire', 'lightning' and the 'Sun'.
Sthaulāśthīvi informs us that Agni is the drying agent which neither wets nor moistens anything. Śakapūni tells us that the word Agni is derived from three verbs – from 'going', from 'shining or burning', and from 'leading'; the letter "a" (अ) is from root "i" which means 'to go', the letter "g" (ग्) is from the root "añj" meaning 'to shine' or "dah" meaning 'to burn', and the last letter is by itself the root "nī" (नी) which means 'to lead'.Yaskacharya explains that it is called अग्नि (Agni) because it is अग्रणी (Agrani), the forward leader who is the ever awake disseminator of knowledge and the first principle of thought which manifests as Speech; it is carried at the front in all ritualistic undertakings (yajnas).
The manga and anime series Black Butler features an extensive cast of characters created by Yana Toboso.
The series takes place in England during the reign of Queen Victoria. It follows Sebastian Michaelis, a demonic butler obliged to serve twelve-year-old (later thirteen-year-old) Earl Ciel Phantomhive due to a contract he made with Ciel. In exchange for binding Sebastian to his will, Ciel offers his soul to him. The series' storyline follows Ciel and Sebastian solving the problems plaguing England while waiting for the day Ciel gets his wish: To exact his revenge upon the people that humiliated and tortured him suffer the same pain.
Sebastian Michaelis (セバスチャン・ミカエリス, Sebasuchan Mikaerisu), the title character, is the demon butler of the Phantomhive household and acts as Ciel's bodyguard. Being a butler is a job he is completely devoted to, following Ciel's orders with great loyalty and swiftness. He enjoys challenging Ciel and doesn't seem to be truly concerned about his well-being at times, insulting and irritating him to see his reaction. However, there are times that he displays concern about Ciel's life, such as when he was worried when Ciel had an asthma attack, and again later on when he had a panic attack. Sebastian has a fondness for felines in general, stating he cannot foresee or control his own reactions and feelings when in presence of one. As a demon, he has also shown to be extremely ruthless, sadistic, and manipulative to his opponents and is intrigued with humans' behaviors and attitudes, as he finds them interesting because of their insatiable greed.
Agni is the "fire," that drives all digestion and metabolism in the Indian medical practice of Ayurveda. The digestive and absorption process is called Pakwagni (digestive fire).
The pachak (stomach and small intestine) has 13 Jatharagni (digestive enzymes or "fire") that occur in four different states: samagni (normal), Visamagni (abnormal), Tikshanagni (increased) and Mandagni (decreased).
Samanagni is the state of complete balance. All three doshas: vata, pitta and kaphha are in total balance. When Agni is disturbed by Vata, the condition is known as Vishamagni. When Pitta affects Agni, the condition is known Tikshagni. When Kapha affects Agni, the condition is known Mandagni.
The composer of Hareet Samhita writes that condition of Samanagni depends upon whether the doshas (Vata, pitta, and kaphha) are all in normal stage. When Vata, Pitta, Kaphha are unequal, the condition is known as Vishamagni. When Pitta is higher than normal, the condition is known as Teekshagni. When Vata and Kaphha are higher than normal, the condition is known as Mandagni.
