Biography

1969–1989: Early life and career beginnings

McKnight was born in Buffalo, New York. His musical career began in childhood when he became a member of his church choir.

1990–1997: Mercury Records

In 1990, McKnight's older brother, Claude McKnight III, and his band, Take 6, signed a record deal with Warner Brothers. This encouraged McKnight to shop his own demo tapes and by the age of 19, he'd signed his first recording deal with Mercury Records subsidiary, Wing Records. In 1992, Brian McKnight was released, and his self-titled debut peaked at fifty-eight in the Billboard 200 chart, which primarily featured the ballad (and top twenty single) "One Last Cry". It was followed by two more albums for Mercury, 1995's I Remember You and 1997's Anytime. Anytime, McKnight's final album with Mercury, sold over two million copies and was nominated for a Grammy. The video for "Anytime", directed by Darren Grant, was nominated for Best Male Video at the 1998 MTV Video Music Awards. In 1997, McKnight recorded "Remember the Magic" for Disney World's 25th anniversary.

Brian McKnight (album)

Brian McKnight is the eponymous debut album released in 1992 by Mercury Records. It features his then-highest charting single, "One Last Cry", which reached number thirteen on the US Billboard Hot 100 and sold 500,000 copies. The album itself was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America.

Critical response

Brian McKnight received positive reviews from most music critics. Entertainment Weekly writer Havelock Nelson, gave the album an A-rating citing that "McKnight is the most comforting R&B singer-songwriter to emerge since Keith Washington early last year."

Missing You

by: Brian McKnight

I be missin’ you, missin’ you, missin’ you
I be missin’ you, missin’ you, missin’ you
I be missin’ you, missin’ you, missin’ you
I be missin’ you, missin’ you, missin’ you
Missin’ you
[Verse 1:]
Mmm thinking back from yesterday
All the things I could’ve said, but didn’t say to you
Should’ve begged you to stay
Heard that you’ve moved on
Heard you’ve been doing okay
Been thinking about you all the time
Do you ever reminisce
Do I be crossing your mind
All the tears and wasted time
Nothings been the same since you went away
[Hook:]
Girl I know that I used to be your man
Used to have you here in the palm of my hand
I let you slip away
Just like grains of sand
[Chorus:]
When I’m lying in my bed at night
Wish I was holdin’ you, wish I was touchin’ you (Baby)
I cry myself to sleep at night
Wish I was kissin’ you instead of just missin’ you
Girl I keep holdin’ on (I keep holdin’ on)
Girl I keep holdin’ on
Girl I keep holdin’ on (I keep holdin’ on)
Girl I keep holdin’ on
[Verse 2:]
Wish I could turn back the hands of time
Inside me there’s so many questions why
?? Is to live a lie
But in my heart now it’s just too late
It’s just like staring up in the pouring rain
I refuse to believe that I’ll never see you again
All that’s going on inside my brain
That I can’t seem to get it straight
'Cos
[Hook:]
Girl I know that I used to be your man
Used to have you here in the palm of my hand
I let you slip away
Just like grains of sand
[Chorus:]
When I’m lying in my bed at night
Wish I was holdin’ you, wish I was touchin’ you (Baby)
I cry myself to sleep at night
Wish I was kissin’ you instead of just missin’ you
Girl I keep holdin’ on (I keep holdin’ on)
Girl I keep holdin’ on
Girl I keep holdin’ on (I keep holdin’ on)
Girl I keep holdin’ on
And If I ever hurt you
I didn’t mean to treat you bad
I think about the good times that we had
And there’s no way they can be gone
I be missin’ you, missin’ you, missin’ you
I be missin’ you, missin’ you, missin’ you
I be missin’ you, missin’ you, missin’ you
I be missin’ you, missin’ you, missin’ you
Missin’ you
[Chorus:]
When I’m lying in my bed at night
Wish I was holdin’ you, wish I was touchin’ you (Baby)
I cry myself to sleep at night
Wish I was kissin’ you instead of just missin’ you
Girl I keep holdin’ on (I keep holdin’ on)
Girl I keep holdin’ on
Girl I keep holdin’ on (I keep holdin’ on)
Girl I keep holdin’ on
When I’m lying in my bed at night
Wish I was holdin’ you, wish I was touchin’ you (Baby)
I cry myself to sleep at night
Wish I was kissin’ you instead of just missin’ you
Girl I keep holdin’ on (I keep holdin’ on)
Girl I keep holdin’ on
Girl I keep holdin’ on (I keep holdin’ on)
Girl I keep holdin’ on
