Affirmation is the second and final studio album by Australian pop duo Savage Garden. The album was released on 9 November 1999.

    Background

The band recorded their second studio album after they recorded "The Animal Song" for the soundtrack to the film The Other Sister. The majority of the album was written by Hayes in New York in September 1999 or slightly earlier that year. The exception was 'You Can Still Be Free', a much older song that dated back to at least 1995 - a demo recording appeared on their 1995 demo tape, then titled 'Free'. It has not been made clear why the song was rerecorded, but it is largely a similar arrangement to the original demo. Preceded by the second single "I Knew I Loved You", the album was released on 9 November 1999 to worldwide success. The album spawned a further five singles, one of which was exclusive to the Australian market ("Chained to You"), and one of which was exclusive to the British market ("The Best Thing").

Following the success of the Superstars and Cannonballs video album, the album was reissued in November 2000, containing a bonus live album, Declaration, featuring recordings from the concert at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre on 21 May 2000. Including sales of the re-issue, the album has sold more than 8 million copies worldwide, being certified platinum in a number of countries. It became the band's last studio album after Daniel decided to leave in 2001.

    Affirmation (Beverley Knight album)

Affirmation is the fourth studio album by British R&B and neo soul singer-songwriter Beverley Knight, released on 28 June 2004 by Parlophone Records.

The album was released on 28 June 2004, to much critical acclaim and is her most personal album to date. The album features three hit singles, "Come As You Are", "Not Too Late for Love" and "Keep This Fire Burning", which all entered the UK Singles Chart top 40.

Affirmation peaked at just outside the UK album chart top ten by one space at number 11. It also peaked at 83 in the Swiss Album Chart.

Affirmation was certified Silver by the BPI on Friday 2 July 2004, less than a week after the album was released. By December 2004, the album had received a Gold certification.

    Affirmation

    by: Beverley Knight

    Intuition I could not ignore
Came to help me in my time of danger
Wasn't easy walking out the door
But I knew any other place was safer
And the freedom that I now enjoy
Helps the bruises in my heart to face
'Cause I know I am not afraid
You can never feel the joy and pain
    That you've never known
Far too much emotion to explain
In a story that is not your own
How you gonna try to sing the blues
When the only key you know is major?
Walk a mile in someone else's shoes
And the ups and downs have got to change ya
You can't tell me that you understand
'Til my bitter tears roll down your face
'Til you're standing in my place
You can never feel the joy and pain
    That you've never known
Far too much emotion to explain
In a story that is not your own
    Now I've got it together
    I will always remember
Where I've been, where I'm going
Why I'm here, why I'm living
    Now I've got it together
    There's no more desperation
    Only my affirmation
    To live for me
You can never feel the joy and pain
    That you've never known
Far too much emotion to explain
