An adept is an individual identified as having attained a specific level of knowledge, skill, or aptitude in doctrines relevant to a particular author or organization.
The word "adept" is derived from Latin adeptus 'one who has attained' (the secret of transmuting metals).
Madame Blavatsky makes liberal use of the term adept in her works to refer to their minor function as caretaker of ancient occult knowledge. She also mentions their great compassionate help for humanity and such lesser powers of the adept as being able to take active control of elemental spirits as well as the physical and astral (conditions of non-adepts.
In Alice Bailey's body of writing she outlines a hierarchy of spiritual evolution and an initiatory path along which an individual may choose to advance. In her works an Adept is defined as a being who has taken five of the seven initiations.
Various occult organizations have steps in which an initiate may ascend in their own magical system. Some call these steps degrees or grades.
An adept is a member of advanced degree in certain occult, esoteric, or philosophical organizations.

Adept (Jelene Anderson) was created by writer Peter B. Gillis and artist Brent Anderson and debuted in Strikeforce: Morituri #1 (December 1986). The codename "Adept" was introduced in issue #2. Adept remained in the regular cast of the book until her death in Strikeforce: Morituri #13.
The character is distinct through the series as having a very strong religious feeling. Together with Blackthorn, Adept was one of the favorite characters of series creator Gillis: "I had a real soft spot for Adept, since she was the first fundamentalist Christian character to be portrayed positively for as long as I can remember". Gillis himself defines himself as “about as non-fundamentalist-Christian as you can get". Commenting further on the character, Gillis has mentioned that "she really was wonderful, if not easy to write. And I think her death came off beautifully".
Bring out the knives!
We're about to go down with a taste of vengeance.
Don't make a sound.
Just a single word can cause a landslide
We will rumble the ground.
We will tear it up like a fucking earthquake
This is war!
This is death!
Underneath the moonlight, blood will be spilled!
We will get them open.
Victory is the only outcome.
Let the war begin!
We are the greatest evil
We are the devils breed
We live for the sound of fear
We live for the sound of fear
This is war!
This is death!
It's not forgotten.
You're sins will stand it's act.
The ground below you will shallow you hole!
We are, we are the death dealers!
We are, we are the death dealers!
We are your lungs final breathe!
We are your hearts final beat!
Your god like a sacrifice
We will burn away your every sin
