Adam Virgo

Adam Grendo Virgo (born 25 January 1983) is a former professional footballer who retired from playing in October 2013. He now works as a freelance co-commentator and pundit for TV and radio.

Career

From the age of seven Virgo played for the St. Aubyns Preparatory School football team. At 13 he was awarded a sports scholarship to Ardingly College. He then moved to his home town club Brighton. He memorably scored a 120th-minute equaliser against Swindon Town in the 2004 Division Two Play Off Semi Final 2nd leg, to force a penalty shootout. Brighton won the shootout then faced Bristol City at the Millennium Stadium, who they beat to win promotion to the second tier. In the 2004–05 season he earned nationwide coverage on his significant performances that maintained Brighton's position in the Football League Championship.

In July 2005, he completed a move to Celtic for a reported £1.5 million. Virgo remained on the fringes until first-choice centre back Bobo Balde left for the African Cup Of Nations. He was given his second start of his Celtic career against Motherwell. He was awarded man of the match for his display by both broadcaster Setanta and the official Celtic website.

Adam was a major character in the 1994 novel, Mordenheim, written by Chet Williamson.

Fictional character biography

Adam is the darklord of Lamordia. Known as Mordenheim's Monster or the Creature, he is an extremely intelligent and nimble dread flesh golem, based on Mary Shelley's Frankenstein. Adam is the most successful creation of Dr. Victor Mordenheim in his research into the creation of life, albeit the one that causes him grief unmeasured. Adam reduced the doctor's wife Elise to a vegetative state and apparently murdered their adopted daughter Eva.

The two are inextricably bound together: Dr. Mordenheim has Adam's immortality, and in return Adam shares the doctor's anguish.

Usually hidden from sight, Adam is believed to spend most of his time on the Isle of Agony, part of the archipelago known as the Finger.
