Acapulco Gold is a 1976 drug culture film starring Marjoe Gortner and Randi Oakes.

Plot

While marijuana growers pick their crop, and use a boat to smuggle in order it on a truck today. In the meantime an ordinary insurance salesman named Ralph Hollio (Marjoe Gortner) has arrived at the airport.

Acapulco Gold is a golden-leafed Cannabis sativa strain originally from the Acapulco area of southwest Mexico.

History

The Oxford English Dictionary quotes an early usage of the term from a 1965 newsletter, in which it was described it as "a special grade of pot growing only in the vicinity of Acapulco. The color is either brownish gold or a mixture of gold and green. This grade has a potency surpassed by few of the green varieties and usually comes at slightly higher prices or in short weights." According to one linguistics book, "The gold in this phrase originally described the golden hue of the leaves on the cannabis plant, but later came to refer both to the high quality of the cannabis and to the especially high price it commanded."Acapulco by itself can be used as a synonym for cannabis, generally referring to a high-grade type like Acapulco gold. The similarly named Acapulco red, refers to a reddish-brown cannabis grown near Acapulco, Mexico with reddish tops on the plants.

Acapulco Gold is a clothing brand founded in New York City in 2006.

Co-owners Augie Galan and Geoff Heath met while working at Supreme (clothing) in 1998. After nearly a decade there, they decided to branch off and start their own line of clothing. The brand began with t-shirts and hats at first, then as popularity grew extended their line to include high quality cut and sew garments.

Acapulco Gold sells its clothing at boutiques in 19 countries and has a global reach through its website.

Acapulco Gold has collaborated with photographer Janette Beckman to produce an ongoing line of t-shirts and hats based on her photographs.

In 2010, Acapulco Gold teamed with Mark McNairy to create original footwear.

Acapulco Gold also collaborated with Vans in 2010 to put their twist on the Moda Hi sneaker.

Acapulco de Juárez (Spanish: [akaˈpulko de ˈxwaɾes]), commonly called Acapulco, is a city, municipality and major seaport in the state of Guerrero on the Pacific coast of Mexico, 380 kilometres (240 mi) southwest from Mexico City. Acapulco is located on a deep, semi-circular bay and has been a port since the early colonial period of Mexico's history. It is a port of call for shipping and cruise lines running between Panama and San Francisco, California, United States. The city of Acapulco is the largest in the state, far larger than the state capital Chilpancingo. Acapulco is also Mexico's largest beach and balneario resort city.

The city is best known as one of Mexico's oldest and most well-known beach resorts, which came into prominence in the 1950s as a getaway for Hollywood stars and millionaires. Acapulco is still famous and still attracts many tourists, although most are now from Mexico itself. The resort area is divided into two: The north end of the bay is the "traditional" area, where the famous in the mid-20th century vacationed; and the south end is dominated by newer luxury high-rise hotels.

Acapulco is the debut album by Swedish singer and songwriter Therese Grankvist. It was released in Sweden on record label Tretiak in 2003, being Therese's first album not released under the Drömhus alias.
