Gates may refer to:
Gates (dates unknown) was an English professional cricketer who made 8 known appearances in major cricket matches from 1794 to 1807.
He was mainly associated with Berkshire and also played for Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC).
Ti'julk Mr'asz, codename Gates, is a fictional character, a member of the Legion of Super-Heroes in the DC Universe. Like all natives of the planet Vyrga, Gates has a largely insectoid body. He is also noted for his strong political views, tending towards socialism.
Gates was the third non-biped member (after Quislet and Tellus) in the history of the Legion (the first after the 1994 Reboot). He was also unique amongst Legionnaires in being their only unwilling member, having been drafted by his planetary government to represent them in the Legion (which he perceived as being militaristic and inherently fascist). Apparently Gates is one of the very few free-thinkers on his homeworld; the rest are unindividualistic conformists.
Gates has played key roles in many missions; his tactics enabled Star Boy to defeat Validus of the Fatal Five and he was able to resist the Emerald Eye's possession. Gates was part of the Legion team that was stranded in the 20th century for a time, where he came up with the strategy to defeat Mantis, and forged a close friendship with teammate Brainiac 5. Gates also joined Ultra Boy in helping out at soup kitchens during their stay.
The abyssal zone is the abyssopelagic layer or pelagic zone. "Abyss" derives from the Greek word ἄάβυσσος, meaning bottomless. At depths of 4,000 to 6,000 metres (13,123 to 19,685 feet), this zone remains in perpetual darkness and never receives daylight. These regions are also characterised by continuous cold and lack of nutrients. The abyssal zone has temperatures around 2 °C to 3 °C (35 °F to 37 °F) through the large majority of its mass. It is the deeper part of the midnight zone which starts in the bathypelagic waters above. Its permanent inhabitants (for example, Riftia pachyptila, (the Giant tube worm) found near hydrothermal vents in the pacific ocean and the giant squid are able to withstand the immense pressures of the ocean depths, up to 76 megapascals (11,000 psi).
The area below the abyssal zone is the sparsely inhabited Hadal zone. The zone above is the bathyal zone.
The deep trenches or fissures that plunge down thousands of metres below the ocean floor (for example, the midoceanic trenches such as the Mariana Trench in the Pacific) are almost unexplored. Previously, only the bathyscaphe Trieste, the remote control submarine Kaiko and the Nereus have been able to descend to these depths. However, as of March 25, 2012 one vehicle, the Deepsea Challenger was able to penetrate to a depth of 10,898.4 metres (35,756 ft).
Abyssal is an EP by the Japanese screamo band Envy. Abyssal likens itself with Insomniac Doze's more atmospheric sound. Recorded and mixed at Bazooka Higashinakano, Spring 2007. Mastered at Parasight Mastering. Includes booklet with lyrics in both Japanese & English.
Krisiun is a Brazilian death metal band, founded by brothers Alex Camargo (bass, vocals), Moyses Kolesne (guitars) and Max Kolesne (drums). Since its formation in 1990, the group recorded two demos, Evil Age in 1991 and Curse of the Evil One in 1992, and self-released an extended play (EP) titled Unmerciful Order in 1993. After signing with Dynamo Records (a Brazilian label), Krisiun released the debut full-length Black Force Domain in 1995, followed by Apocalyptic Revelation, in 1998. They signed with major label Century Media in 1999, releasing a further eight studio albums.
Krisiun was formed in 1990, by three brothers, vocalist/bassist Alex Camargo, guitarist Moyses Kolesne and drummer Max Kolesne. (Alex uses his mother's maiden name.) They have toured extensively through North America, South America and Europe (recording their first official DVD while in Poland).
The band is heavily influenced by the debut albums of Sodom, Kreator, Morbid Angel and Slayer. Their violent lyrics and very fast musical tempo makes them one of the most eminent "extreme death metal" bands in the world.
Enter the gates of pure abominations
of abyssic chambers with infinite dimensions
frozen winds distant shine of stars
distorted reflections
of the slaughtered and damned
following circles of malignant essence
fallen angels feasting thru seas of black blood
awaiting for the summoning of infamous command
as the blackest sun solstice breeds
blinding shine of cataclysms
massive merciless genocide
mayhemic spells of pure chaos evocation
supreme conjuration of satanic rites
cleanse the race of damnation
in a stormy blast dragged reaped flesh
destroy the doomed corpse with lust
release it's soul upon the blackest bounds
infernal hordes of hades enraged
fierce beasts ride for decay
destroy the legions of the dethroned emperor
whip it's souls upon the underword of
majesty and damnation
impureness turns into pureness
beyond the gates upon the infernal circles
drowned and damned where etter flows
and moribund awaits
along the putrid waters of Acheron
torn corpses dragged and crushed
into storms of grinding flesh
whilrwinds of carrion and putrid stench
