Abla

Abla is a municipality of Almería province, in Spain. It is considered to be the Abula mentioned by Ptolemy in his Geographia (II 6, 60) as located in the Iberian region of Bastetania.

Abula is said to be one of the first cities in Hispania that were Christianized, specifically by Saint Secundus, one of the group of Seven Apostolic Men (siete varones apostólicos), Christian clerics ordained in Rome by Saints Peter and Paul and sent to evangelize Spain. Little is known of a second bishop of Abula, called Iulius, living in the 2nd century. No longer a residential bishopric, Abula is today listed by the Catholic Church as a titular see.

Another candidate for identification with ancient Abula is Ávila, which may instead have been the ancient Obila.

  • Werner E. Ablaß

Werner E. Ablaß (born 11 December 1946) is a German politician who was a Christian oppositionist in East Germany (GDR). Together with minister Rainer Eppelmann, Secretary of State in the Ministerium für Abrüstung und Verteidigung (MfAuV), Ablaß played a major role in the closure of the National People's Army (NVA) during the German reunification.

    History

Ablaß was born on 11 December 1946, the son of a carpenter in Briesen. He was brought up as a Christian. From 1953 to 1963 he attended the Polytechnic Secondary School in Briesen. He then worked for five years as a carer in a diaconal institution in Züssow. From 1969 to 1972 he was active as a bookseller in Potsdam, then he worked at the GDR state insurance. Ablaß was removed from the office in 1985, as he made a relocation request to West Germany, but which he later cancelled. Then he worked two years long as a cleaner in the church advanced seminar in Hermannswerder, before he was again hired by the state insurance in early 1987. From 1987 to early 1990 he headed a Protestant retirement home in Camin, Mecklenburg.

    ABLA Homes

ABLA Homes (Jane Addams Homes, Robert Brooks Homes, Loomis Courts and Grace Abbott Homes) was a Chicago Housing Authority (CHA) public housing development made up of four different public housing projects located on the Near-West Side of Chicago, Illinois. The name "ABLA" was an acronym for four different housing developments that together constituted one large site. The four housing developments that made up ABLA were: the Jane Addams Homes, Robert Brooks Homes (including the Robert Brooks Extension), Loomis Courts, and the Grace Abbott Homes totaling 3,596 units. It spanned from Cabrini Street on the north to 15th Street on the south; and from Blue Island Avenue on the east to Ashland Avenue on the west. Most of ABLA has been razed for the Roosevelt Square, a new mixed-income community development. For most of their existence the ABLAs held more than 17,000 residents (though only 8,500 were officially on the lease), giving it the second largest population in the CHA. It was second only to the Robert Taylor Homes and Cabrini–Green in land area and had a higher occupancy than Cabrini–Green.
