Abdul Haq Wasiq

Abdul Haq Wasiq is a citizen of Afghanistan who was held in extrajudicial detention in the Guantanamo Bay detainment camps, in Cuba. His Guantanamo Internment Serial Number was 4. American intelligence analysts estimate that he was born in 1971, in Ghazni, Afghanistan.

Abdul Haq Wasiq arrived at the Guantanamo detention camps on January 11, 2002, and he was held there until 31 May 2014. He was released, along with the other four members of the so-called Taliban five—Mohammad Fazl, Norullah Noori, and Mohammad Nabi Omari in exchange for the release of United States Army soldier Bowe Bergdahl, who had been held captive by the Taliban-aligned Haqqani network.

Held aboard the USS Bataan

Former Taliban Ambassador to Pakistan Abdul Salam Zaeef described being flown to the United States Navy's amphibious warfare vessel, the USS Bataan, for special interrogation. Zaeef wrote that the cells were located six decks down, were only 1 meter by 2 meters. He wrote that the captives weren't allowed to speak with one another, but that he "eventually saw that Mullahs Fazal, Noori, Burhan, Wasseeq Sahib and Rohani were all among the other prisoners." Historian Andy Worthington, author of the The Guantanamo Files, identified Wasiq as one of the men Zaeef recognized. He identified Mullah Rohani as Gholam Ruhani, Mullah Noori as Norullah Noori and Mullah Fazal as Mohammed Fazil.

Abdul Haq

Abdul Haq (Arabic: عبد الحق ‎) is a Muslim male given name, and in modern usage, surname. It is built from the Arabic words Abd, al- and Haqq. The name means "servant of the Truth", Al-Haqq being one of the names of God in the Qur'an, which give rise to the Muslim theophoric names.

The letter a of the al- is unstressed, and can be transliterated by almost any vowel, often by e. So the first part can appear as Abdel, Abdul or Abd-al. The second part may appear as Haq, Haqq, Haque, Hak or in other ways. The whole name is subject to variable spacing and hyphenation.

Abdul Haq (ETIP)

Abdul Haq (1 October 1971) is a Uyghur who Chinese security officials asserted planned terrorist operations in China. He is described as being the "overall leader" of the East Turkistan Islamic Party (ETIP). The United States Treasury reported he took over leadership of the organization in 2003, following the death of its previous leader, and took a seat on al Qaeda's shura, its central committee, in 2005.

The ETIP was designated as a terrorist organization in Executive Order 13224. The United Nations Security Council's 1267 Committee placed him on a list of individuals suspected of having a tie to Osama bin Laden.

In October 2008 Chinese security officials asserted that his real name was "Memetiming Memeti" (Uyghur: Memtimin Memet). They published half a dozen aliases. They reported he left China in March 1998, and becamse a trainer at a camp in a "South Asian country".

Abdul Haq faced allegations that he was behind a bombing that preceded the Beijing Olympics.

Abdul Haq (Urdu scholar)

Maulvi Abdul Haq (Urdu: مولوی عبد الحق‎) (16 November 1872 – 16 August 1961) was a scholar and linguist, who is also regarded as Baba-e-Urdu (Urdu: بابائے اردو‎) (Father of Urdu). Amir Khusrow was one of the earliest and the most eminent poets to use Urdu in poetry. He is often called the father of the Urdu language. Abdul Haq was a champion of the Urdu language and the demand for it to be made the national language of Pakistan.

Early life

Abdul Haq was born on 16 November 1872 in Hapur city in meerut District (now Hapur district, Uttar Pradesh) in India. He developed an affinity for the Urdu, Deccani, Persian and Arabic languages. He obtained a B.A. from Aligarh Muslim University in 1894 where he was in the company of some upcoming politicians/ scholars of that time including, Shibli Nomani, Sir Syed Ahmed Khan, Ross Masood, Mohsin-ul-Mulk, Syed Mahmood, Professor T. W. Arnold, and Babu Mukharjee. After graduation, Abdul Haq went to Hyderabad Deccan and dedicated himself to learning, teaching, translating and upgrading Urdu. Abdul Haq was deeply influenced by Sir Syed's political and social views, and learnt English and scientific subjects. Like Khan, Abdul Haq saw Urdu as a major cultural and political influence on the life and identity of the Muslims of India. He founded the Anjuman Taraqqi-i-Urdu in 1903 in Aligarh. Professor Arnold become the first president and Shibli Nomani the first secretary. Abdul Haq joined the Indian Civil Service under the British Raj, and worked as a chief translator at the Home Department in Delhi, before being appointed as the provincial inspector of schools at Aurangabad in the Central Provinces. In the same year, he was appointed secretary of the All India Muhammadan Educational Conference, which had been founded by Sir Syed Ahmed Khan in 1886 for the promotion of education and intellectualism in Muslim society. He become Principal of Osmania College (Aurangabad) and retired in 1930.
