Abaddon is a Polish punk rock band.

History

Early history

The band got together in Bydgoszcz in 1982 under the name "Partyzantka Miejska" ("Urban Guerilla"), but soon decided on the name "Abaddon". Their first significant performance occurred at the Jarocin Festival in 1983. Soon after that, two days before a show in Poznań, the lead singer Wolf quit the group. Kiki (Waldek Jedyczowski) then became the lead singer.

Abaddon again performed at the Jarocin Festival in 1984 and 1985. One of their songs, (Kto), which was recorded at the 1985 Festival, was featured on the Fala compilation LP. They soon met a journalist from Yugoslavia, Peter Barbaric, who arranged a tour for them that was profitable enough to pay for a recording session at the Borutcine Studio in Ljubliana. That session, done in May 1985, produced the album Wet Za Wet.

In 1987, conflicts emerged among the band members as some of them wanted to pursue heavier hardcore while others preferred a more melodic punk. That strife eventually led to Abaddon's split. Most of the members abandoned the music scene except for Tomek Dorn (Perelka). He went on playing for a local cold wave band called Variete.

+/- (band)

+/-, or Plus/Minus, is an American indietronic band formed in 2001. The band makes use of both electronic and traditional instruments, and has sought to use electronics to recreate traditional indie rock song forms and instrumental structures. The group has released two albums on each of the American indie labels Teenbeat Records and Absolutely Kosher, and their track "All I do" was prominently featured in the soundtrack for the major film Wicker Park. The group has developed a devoted following in Japan and Taiwan, and has toured there frequently. Although many artists append bonus tracks onto the end of Japanese album releases to discourage purchasers from buying cheaper US import versions, the overseas versions of +/- albums are usually quite different from the US versions - tracklists can be rearranged, artwork with noticeable changes is used, and tracks from the US version can be replaced as well as augmented by bonus tracks.

!!! is a dance-punk band that formed in Sacramento, California, in 1996 by lead singer Nic Offer. Its name is most commonly pronounced "Chk Chk Chk" ([/tʃk.tʃk.tʃk/]). Members of !!! came from other local bands such as The Yah Mos, Black Liquorice and Popesmashers. They are currently based in New York City, Sacramento, and Portland, Oregon. The band's sixth full-length album, As If, was released in October 2015.

Background and history

!!! is an American band formed in the summer of 1995 by the merger of part of the group Black Liquorice and Popesmashers. After a successful joint tour, these two teams decided to mix the disco-funk with more aggressive sounds and integrate the hardcore singer Nic Offer from the The Yah Mos. The band's name was inspired by the subtitles of the movie The Gods Must Be Crazy, in which the clicking sounds of the Bushmens' Khoisan language were represented as "!". However, as the bandmembers themselves say, !!! is pronounced by repeating thrice any monosyllabic sound. "Chk Chk Chk" is the most common pronunciation, which the URL of their official website and the title of their Myspace page suggest is the preferred pronunciation.

Scriptorium Fonts

Scriptorium Fonts is an Austin, Texas based type foundry founded in 1992 by game designer, editor and historian Dave Nalle. It specializes in adaptations of antique fonts and fonts based on artistic hand lettering drawn from the work of famous artists and calligraphers like Alphonse Mucha, William Morris, Willy Pogany, Arthur Rackham and Howard Pyle. Their catalog currently includes over 600 fonts and they have four type designers on staff: Dave Nalle, Michael Scarpitti, Peter Nevins and Kevin Andrew Murphy. Fonts include Abaddon, Hesperides, Buccaneer, Folkard, True Golden, Kelmscott, Ardenwood and Hendrix. They specialize in thematic packages of historic fonts based on specific artistic periods or design movements packaged together with licensed borders and art in the same style.

In 2003 their fonts and clip art were used as part of a radical redesign of Whole Earth magazine under the guest editorship of Viridian guru Bruce Sterling. In 2005 they raised money for disaster relief after hurricane Katrina by donating the proceeds of the sales of three New Orleans themed fonts (Guede, Ironworks and Veve) to three different Louisiana charities. Recently their fonts have been prominently featured in the Spiderwick books and film and the Windlass font was used on the covers of the Percy Jackson book series by Rick Riordan as well as the Percy Jackson and the Olympians film. The Folkard font is used for the main heading font in World of Warcraft and also in the Disney Fairies game series. The Valdemar font is featured on the covers of all of Mark Chadbourn's fantasy novel series including Age of Misrule.

Abaddon (Boondox album)

Abaddon is the fourth studio album by horrorcore rapper Boondox. This is his last album under Psychopathic Records before departing to do "his own thing" in 2015.

History

In late 2011 and early 2012 Boondox released 2 songs from his new album under preparation. The songs were "Abaddon" and "Monster". Shortly after that Boondox departed from the label. During the Insane Clown Posse seminar at the 2013 Gathering of the Juggalos, it was announced that Boondox had returned to Psychopathic.

Not until February 2014, during an interview with Bukshot and ClaAs - the two other members of The Underground Avengers - did Boondox state that his next album was finished, and that he was hoping to release the album in April or May of that year. More was revealed about the record in the March 14, 2014 issue of the Hatchet Herald (Psychopathic Records' official newsletter).In the issue, the name of the album was announced as "Abaddon", and the release date was confirmed to be May 13, 2014. Regarding the record, it was said that "[The album is] not just gory horrorcore—though there's plenty of that—there's something genuinely unsettling about this record [...] You know that spooky ass feeling when you feel a shockwave shoot down your spine? Yeah, [hearing the album] was just like that [...] “Abaddon” is definitely not for the faint of heart or for those prone to nightmares. This is like a haunted house movie set to music—you’re going to be scared and who might even jump a little bit at some of the surprises contained within this album." Along with details of the album itself, it was also announced that Boondox would be performing in an upcoming tour titled The Wormwood Tour.
