Aba (genus)

Aba is a noble kindred (genus) of the Kingdom of Hungary. Their ancestors may have been among the tribal leaders of the Kabars (three nomadic tribes that joined the tribal federation of the Magyars in the 9th century). The Gesta Hungarorum ("The Deeds of the Hungarians") mentions that Ede and Edemen, the Abas' ancestors, received land possession around the Mátra Mountains, especially in Gyöngyöspata – Heves County, after the conquest of the Carpathian Basin by the Magyars (around 895). The Gesta Hunnorum et Hungarorum ("The Deeds of the Huns and the Hungarians", 1282–85) connects the family to Attila the Hun.

Samuel Aba was the most prominent member of the family who became King of Hungary (1041–1044). The gens may have been named after him. Amade Aba is another prominent descendant of the family; he held several castles and possessions on the northern and north-eastern parts of the kingdom in the first decade of the 14th century.

Aba (film)

ABÁ is the high-budget Sinhalese film directed by Jackson Anthony, based on the historical legend of King Pandukabhaya which is set in Sri Lanka more than 2400 years ago. The title is derived from "Pandu Aba", another name for the title character.

Anthony’s son, Sajitha Anuttara, portrays Pandukabhaya. The film also features Malini Fonseka, Ravindra Randeniya,Sriyantha Mendis, Sabeetha Perera and many other popular actors.

It was released in Sri Lanka on 8 August 2008. Plans are being made to screen this film in several other countries, including China, Italy and Australia.

Production

Justin Belagamage and Rajindra Jayasinghe produced this film for Mandakini Creations (Pvt) Ltd. Production began halfway through 2007. The film was shot at different remote places in Sri Lanka. It is the most expensive Sinhalese movie to date, costing more than 60 million Rupees ($500.000). The set for the royal palace alone reportedly cost around 6.5 million Rupees ($60.000).

Family Π

Family Π is a group of New Testament manuscripts. Belonging to the Byzantine text-type, it is one of the textual families of this group. The name of the family, "Π" (pronounced in English as "pie"), is drawn from the symbol used for the Codex Petropolitanus. One of the most distinct of the Byzantine sub-groups, it is very old and the third largest. The oldest Byzantine manuscripts belong to this family.

Hermann von Soden designated this group by the symbol "K^a". According to him, its text is not purely Byzantine.

Soden included the following in this group of codices: Cyprius (K), Petropolitanus (Π), 72, 114, 116, 178, 265, 389, 1008, 1009, 1079, 1154, 1200, 1219, 1346, and 1398. Lake added to this group of manuscripts: 489, 537, 652, 775, 796, 904, 1478, 1500, 1546, 1561, 1781, 1816. Soden also associated Codex Alexandrinus with this group. Wisse lists about 150 witnesses of the family, but the majority of them belong to this family only in some parts of their text. The Peshitta, in the Gospels, represents this family.

Family was a cult band from Spain in the 1990s. Although initially unsuccessful, Family gradually acquired a fanbase and is now highly recognised in the Spanish underground pop scene.
