Seegräben
Seegräben is a municipality in the district of Hinwil in the canton of Zürich in Switzerland. Besides the village of Seegräben itself, the municipality also includes the settlements of Aathal and Sack.
Geography
Seegräben has an area of 3.8 km2 (1.5 sq mi). Of this area, 49.9% is used for agricultural purposes, while 15.4% is forested. Of the rest of the land, 15.6% is settled (buildings or roads) and the remainder (19.1%) is non-productive (rivers, glaciers or mountains).In 1996 housing and buildings made up 10.4% of the total area, while transportation infrastructure made up the rest (5.3%). Of the total unproductive area, water (streams and lakes) made up 10.4% of the area. As of 2007 12.7% of the total municipal area was undergoing some type of construction.
The Robenhauser Ried wetland is a nature reserve of national importance and is situated between Seegräben, Kempten and Irgenhausen covering an area of about two square kilometers.
Seegräben is the smallest municipality in the district of Hinwil. It consists of three sections, the village of Seegräben, Aathal and Sack.
Aatal (Valley)
The Aatal (Aa valley) is a narrow valley, sourrounded by forests. It’s situated between the Cities Uster and Wetzikon in the canton of Zürich, Switzerland. Through the valley flows the River Ustermer Aa. The location Aathal belongs to the municipality of Seegräben.
The Aatal is a significant traffic artery with commerce and industry. It connects metropolitan area Zurich with the municipalities of the Zürich Oberland (Zurich highlands). In addition to the strongly loaded, national high street leads between Uster and Wetzikon by the valley, there operates the S14 city rail lines Zurich that stops in Aathal half-hourly. Beside the buildings of different former spinning mill companies which are connected by an industrial teaching path, there is an other place of interest, namely the Aathal Dinosaur Museum.
In the 18th/19th century the water power was intensely used by the cotton industry. Since 2008 attempts are in progress, by the small hydroelectric power plants again increase for the stream production to use. Nine power stations operate are up to now again, the tenth one followed in 2009.
