Aaru

In ancient Egyptian mythology, the fields of Aaru (/ɑːˈruː/; Egyptian:

iArw meaning "reeds"; altn. Yaaru, Iaru, Aalu), known also as Sekhet-Aaru or the Egyptian reed fields, are the heavenly paradise, where Osiris rules, since he became part of the Egyptian pantheon and displaced Anubis in the Ogdoad tradition. It has been described as the ka (a part of the soul) of the Nile Delta.

The ancient Egyptians believed that the soul resides in the heart. Upon death, in Duat, hearts are weighed on giant scales against a feather, representing the concept of Ma'at. Those souls that balance the scales are allowed to start a long and perilous journey to Aaru, where they will exist in pleasure for all eternity. Hearts heavy with evil tip and fall into the crocodilian jaws of the demon Ammit. After this "second death", the soul is doomed to restlessness in Duat.

The souls who qualify undergo a long journey and face many perils before reaching Aaru. Once they arrive, they enter through a series of gates. The exact number of gates varies according to sources, some say 15, some 21. They are uniformly described as guarded by evil demons armed with knives.

Aaru (film)

Aaru (English: Six) is a 2005 Indian Tamil language action-masala film written and directed by Hari. It stars Suriya and Trisha Krishnan in lead role. The film's score and soundtrack were composed by Devi Sri Prasad. The film released on 9 December 2005 and was average at the box office. The film was also dubbed and released in Telugu under the same title. The movie dubbed in Hindi as The Return of Ghajini.

Plot

Aarumugam, nicknamed Aaru (Surya Sivakumar), is a thug and dealmaker with a band of boys handpicked from the slums of Chennai. Aaru’s mentor Viswanathan (Ashish Vidyarthi) protects him, because Aaru gives him the violent undercover he needs. When Vishwanthan declares war on his bitter rival Reddy (Jaiparakash Reddy), Aaru assists him. But Vishwanthan betrays him, resulting in the deaths of Aaru's subordinates. Aaru thus realises Vishwanathan's true, evil nature and vows to destroy his power. There is also a subplot involving Aaru's romance with the college student Maha (Trisha Krishnan).
