Aaron Woods

Aaron Woods (born 13 March 1991) is an Australian rugby league player who is currently the captain of the Wests Tigers in the NRL. His position is at prop and he has represented New South Wales in State of Origin.

Early years

Woods played junior football with Leichhardt Juniors and participated in the Balmain Tigers Development Program. He based his game on players Jason Ryles and Ben Kennedy. He attended St Mary's Cathedral College, Sydney and later played for Holy Cross College, Ryde, and represented NSW Catholic Colleges when he was 17. In 2008, he played for the Australian schoolboys side.

In 2009, Woods played for Wests Tigers' Toyota Cup side in their run to the Grand Final, but 2010 was mired by injury, with his hamstring coming close to being torn completely off the bone. However, before the start of the 2011 season, Ricky Stuart named him in a "Blues in Waiting" squad, for potential future NSW State of Origin players. He was described as one of, "the State's best crop of young talent."

Aaron Woods (gridiron football)

Aaron Woods (born August 5, 1986) is a Canadian football wide receiver and return specialist who is currently a free agent. Woods spent 2010 through 2012 playing in the United Football League for the Sacramento Mountain Lions and Las Vegas Locomotives. He played college football at Santa Rosa Junior College, and Portland State.

College career

After playing at Santa Rosa Junior College, Woods transferred to Portland State in 2007. In 2008, Woods had 1,028 receiving yards and a school record 908 kickoff return yards, breaking Shaun Bodiford's record of 724 kickoff return yards in 2005. In 2009, Woods broke his own record with 1,314 kickoff return yards. Woods also holds the record for career kickoff return yards with 2,222, breaking Orshawante Bryant's 1806.

Professional career

UFL

Woods played for the Sacramento Mountain Lions in 2010 and 2011. In 2011 he was named the UFL's special teams player of the year after leading the league with a 23.6-yard kickoff-return average. Woods played for the Las Vegas Locomotives in 2012.

Aaron Scotus

Aaron Scotus, Irish abbot and musician, fl. late 10th century – 14 December 1052.

Background

Aaron was an Irish abbot and music theorist, the term Scotus at the time denoting Irish (person).

St. Martin's of Cologne

A Benedictine, Scotus was the abbot of St. Martin, Cologne, Germany in the year 1042. He pilgrimaged in his youth to Colonia to the Gaelic-Irish convent of St. Martin. He became abbot of the same in 1042. He was identified with Aaron, abbot of St. Pantaleon. Today historians reject this identification.

Work as a composer

It is believed that he first introduced the Gregorian evening service (nocturns) into Germany. He authored two historically important treaties: De utilitate cantus vocalis et de modo cantandi atque psallendi and De regulis tonorum et symphoniarum. The library of St. Martin, Cologne conserves his work Tractatum de utilitate cantus vocalis et de modo cantandi atque psallendi. He wrote three musical treatises, all of which have been lost.

Aaron died on December 14, 1052.

The characters from the American drama/adventure television series Lost were created by Damon Lindelof and J. J. Abrams. Aaron (Copt)

Aaron was a Miaphysite Coptic saint. His apocryphal legend says of him, "When he was sick, he made roasted pigeons fly into his mouth." He has a feast in the Coptic Calendar of saints on May 16.
