Aaron Taylor (baseball)

Aaron Wade Taylor (born August 20, 1977 in Valdosta, Georgia), nicknamed Big Country, is a former Major League Baseball relief pitcher for the Seattle Mariners.

Taylor was drafted by the Atlanta Braves in the 11th round of the 1996 Major League Baseball Draft and was drafted in the 1999 Rule 5 Draft by the Seattle Mariners. He made his debut for the Mariners on September 9, 2002, but gave up 4 earned runs in only 1 inning. He made his final appearance on October 2, 2004. On December 20, 2004, Taylor was traded to the Colorado Rockies for Sean Green, but he never pitched a game for the Rockies. In 2006, he played 3 games for the independent Chico Outlaws of the Golden Baseball League.

Aaron Taylor (American football, born 1975)

Aaron Taylor (born January 21, 1975) is a former American college football player for the University of Nebraska. Taylor was recognized as an All-American and won the Outland Trophy in 1998.

Early years

Taylor was born in Wichita Falls, Texas. He attended S. H. Rider High School in Wichita Falls, where he played high school football for the Rider Raiders.

College career

Taylor attended the University of Nebraska, and played for the Nebraska Cornhuskers football team from 1994 to 1997. As senior in 1997, he won the Outland Trophy as the top college interior lineman in the country. He is one of seven Nebraska players to have won the Outland Trophy and is the only Husker to be awarded All-American honors at two different positions, offensive center and guard. He was also the winner of the Jim Parker Award. During his career, he helped the Huskers to a 49-2 record (.961 winning percentage) and four straight bowl game wins, including undefeated seasons and national titles in 1994, 1995 and 1997. Two of the teams that Nebraska defeated in bowl games in those years, Florida in 1996 and Tennessee in 1998, would go on to win the national title the following year. Taylor participated in games featuring such memorable plays as Tommie Frazier's 75-yard touchdown run against the Florida Gators in the 1996 Fiesta Bowl and the Flea Kicker against Missouri in 1997. His jersey number 67 was retired by Nebraska in 1998, becoming one of just 16 Husker players so honored. In 1999 he was selected to the Nebraska All-Century Football Team via fan poll and in 2002 was named to the Athlon Sports Nebraska All-Time Team.

In the Hebrew Bible and the Quran, Aaron אַהֲרֹן (UK /ˈɛərən/, US /ˈærən/) was the older brother of Moses (Exodus 6:16-20, 7:7; Qur'an 28:34) and a prophet of God. Unlike Moses, who grew up in the Egyptian royal court, Aaron and his elder sister Miriam remained with their kinsmen in the eastern border-land of Egypt (Goshen). When Moses first confronted the Egyptian king about the Israelites, Aaron served as his brother's spokesman ("prophet") to Pharaoh. (Exodus 7:1) Part of the Law (Torah) that Moses received from God at Sinai granted Aaron the priesthood for himself and his male descendants, and he became the first High Priest of the Israelites. Various dates for his life have been proposed, ranging from approximately 1600 to 1200 BC. Aaron died before the Israelites crossed the Jordan river and he was buried on Mount Hor (Numbers 33:39; Deuteronomy 10:6 says he died and was buried at Moserah). Aaron is also mentioned in the New Testament of the Bible.

Aaron Scotus, Irish abbot and musician, fl. late 10th century – 14 December 1052.

Aaron was an Irish abbot and music theorist, the term Scotus at the time denoting Irish (person).

St. Martin's of Cologne

A Benedictine, Scotus was the abbot of St. Martin, Cologne, Germany in the year 1042. He pilgrimaged in his youth to Colonia to the Gaelic-Irish convent of St. Martin. He became abbot of the same in 1042. He was identified with Aaron, abbot of St. Pantaleon. Today historians reject this identification.

Work as a composer

It is believed that he first introduced the Gregorian evening service (nocturns) into Germany. He authored two historically important treaties: De utilitate cantus vocalis et de modo cantandi atque psallendi and De regulis tonorum et symphoniarum. The library of St. Martin, Cologne conserves his work Tractatum de utilitate cantus vocalis et de modo cantandi atque psallendi. He wrote three musical treatises, all of which have been lost.

Aaron died on December 14, 1052.
