Aaron Cook (footballer)

Aaron Cook (born 6 December 1979 in Caerphilly, Wales) is a Welsh semi-professional footballer, who last played for Southern League Premier Division side Gosport Borough. Cook plays as a centre back.

Career

Cook started his career at Portsmouth. He made one appearance, starting in a 1-0 home win over Stockport County on 17 February 1998, before he moved on loan to Crystal Palace.

In November 2008 he joined Newport County from Salisbury City initially on loan.

He was named in the Conference South All Stars team for the 2008-09 season, in June 2009, as voted for by the managers of Conference South teams.

In October 2009 he joined Eastleigh at a time for the Spitfires when Southampton were in negotiations with Eastleigh regarding Aaron Martin's move from the Silverlake Stadium (which went through in early November).

Cook made a positive start in his Eastleigh debut and helped the defence keep a clean sheet against Hampton & Richmond Borough on Tuesday 27 October 2009.

He joined Gosport Borough in July 2010, and was an ever-present in his first season as his new club finished 13th in the Southern League Division One South & West.

Aaron Cook (taekwondo)

Aaron Arthur Cook (born 2 January 1991) is a British-born Moldovan taekwondo athlete, who has been ranked the world no. 1 in the men's −80 kg division on multiple occasions.

He is a three-time European champion having won the −80 kg title at the European Taekwondo Championships in 2010, 2012 representing Great Britain and 2014 representing the Isle of Man, and was the world junior champion in the −78 kg division in 2008.

He represented Great Britain in the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, where he reached the semi-final and was narrowly defeated in the bronze medal match. He was controversially left out of the British team for the 2012 Olympic Games in London despite being the world no. 1-ranked competitor in the −80 kg division when the British Taekwondo Control Board selected Lutalo Muhammad (who was ranked world no. 59 in −80 kg and world no. 7 in −87 kg).

Following this, Cook indicated he could no longer work with the governing authorities in Great Britain, and switched allegiance to the Isle of Man. As a non-Olympic nation, a move which ostensibly allowed Cook to achieve qualification for the 2016 Summer Olympics for Great Britain, who Isle of Man athletes represent at that level.

Aaron Scotus

Aaron Scotus, Irish abbot and musician, fl. late 10th century – 14 December 1052.

Background

Aaron was an Irish abbot and music theorist, the term Scotus at the time denoting Irish (person).

St. Martin's of Cologne

A Benedictine, Scotus was the abbot of St. Martin, Cologne, Germany in the year 1042. He pilgrimaged in his youth to Colonia to the Gaelic-Irish convent of St. Martin. He became abbot of the same in 1042. He was identified with Aaron, abbot of St. Pantaleon. Today historians reject this identification.

Work as a composer

It is believed that he first introduced the Gregorian evening service (nocturns) into Germany. He authored two historically important treaties: De utilitate cantus vocalis et de modo cantandi atque psallendi and De regulis tonorum et symphoniarum. The library of St. Martin, Cologne conserves his work Tractatum de utilitate cantus vocalis et de modo cantandi atque psallendi. He wrote three musical treatises, all of which have been lost.

Aaron died on December 14, 1052.
