A Simple Plan (film)

A Simple Plan is a 1998 American neo-noir crime thriller film adapted by Scott B. Smith from his 1993 novel of the same name. Directed by Sam Raimi, the film stars Bill Paxton, Billy Bob Thornton and Bridget Fonda. Set in rural Minnesota, A Simple Plan follows Hank Mitchell (Paxton) and his brother Jacob (Thornton), who, along with Jacob's friend Lou (Brent Briscoe), discover a crashed plane containing $4.4 million in cash. The three men go to great lengths to keep the money a secret but begin to doubt each other's trust, resulting in lies, deceit and murder.

Development of the film began in 1993 before the novel was published. Mike Nichols purchased the film rights, and the project was picked up by an independent film studio, Savoy Pictures. After Nichols stepped down, the film adaptation became mired in development hell; during the troubled pre-production, Ben Stiller and John Dahl turned down opportunities to direct the film. After Savoy closed in November 1995, the project was sold to Paramount Pictures. John Boorman was hired to direct, but scheduling conflicts led to his replacement by Raimi. Principal photography began in January 1998 and concluded in March after 55 days; filming took place in Wisconsin and Minnesota. The score was produced and composed by Danny Elfman.

A Simple Plan is a 1993 thriller novel by Scott Smith. The New York Times review said the book had "emotional accuracy with an exceptionally skilled plot." A film adaptation, directed by Sam Raimi, was released in 1998; according to the Times review, the novel is so dark that the story was adjusted to soften the ending.

Summary

The story is set in a small town in northern Ohio that is snow-covered throughout the winter. The narrator is Hank Mitchell, an accountant and family man. He begins by stating that his parents had died in a car accident when their vehicle collided with a semi; Hank believes it was a suicide as his parents had been deep in debt due to over-borrowing and mismanagement. On New Year's Eve, Hank and his elder brother Jacob set out to visit their parents' graves, accompanied by Lou, Jacob's only friend. When a fox runs in front of Jacob's truck, he swerves and crashes into a ditch. Jacob's dog chases the fleeing fox into a nature preserve. The three men go after the dog and find a crashed plane; inside the plane is the dead pilot and a gym bag with $4.4 million in $100 bills.

Simple Plan

Simple Plan is a French-Canadian rock band from Montreal, Quebec. The band has released four studio albums: No Pads, No Helmets...Just Balls (2002), Still Not Getting Any... (2004), Simple Plan (2008), and Get Your Heart On! (2011), with their fifth Taking One for the Team stated to be released in February 2016. The band has also released an EP titled Get Your Heart On - The Second Coming! (2013), in addition to two live albums: Live in Japan 2002 (2003) and MTV Hard Rock Live (2005).

The band performed at the Vans Warped Tour every year from 2001 to 2005, and in 2011, 2013, and 2015. The band also performed at the 2010 Winter Olympics closing ceremony, along with The X Factor Australia. In December 2012, the band performed at Mood Indigo, the college festival of IIT Bombay in Mumbai, India. In 2004, the band participated in the movie New York Minute, starring the Olsen twins, Mary-Kate and Ashley. Simple Plan also performed at the 2016 NHL Winter Classic.

Simple Plan is strongly connected to Scooby-Doo, having performed the theme song to What's New, Scooby-Doo? (written by Rich Dickerson), and appeared as themselves in the episode "Simple Plan and the Invisible Madman". Two of the band's songs appeared in chase scenes: "I'd Do Anything" in the episode "It's Mean, It's Green, It's the Mystery Machine", and "You Don't Mean Anything" in "Simple Plan and the Invisible Madman". Also, the band have contributed to the theatrical films (including an original song, "Don't Wanna Think About You", for Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed), as well as the direct-to-DVD film Alpha and Omega: The Legend of the Saw Tooth Cave (with their single "This Song Saved My Life").

Simple Plan (album)

Simple Plan is the self-titled third studio album by French-Canadian pop punk band Simple Plan, released on February 12, 2008. The album was a large musical departure from the band's previous albums, as its theme was more love-based than teen angst. It reached No. 2 on the Canadian album charts, No. 14 on the US Billboard 200 and charted in the top 10 worldwide in countries including Australia, Austria, Brazil, Sweden and Switzerland.

History

Having finished most touring in support of Still Not Getting Any... in March 2006, Simple Plan took some time off and then began work on writing new material with Arnold Lanni, who had produced their first album. On July 1, 2007, they went to the studio and began tracking. They started with drum tracking in Los Angeles after pre-production, then went back to Montreal to finish the rest of the recording process. They also hired David Campbell to arrange and conduct strings for the songs "The End", "What If", "I Can Wait Forever" and "No Love". During September 2007, the band had finished recording and went back to L.A. to mix the album with Chris Lord-Alge. After mixing, the band went to New York to master the album, thus finishing the building of the album. This was announced on October 21.
