A Promise is the second album by Xiu Xiu.

Cover art

The cover art shows "a nude man kneeling on a bed and holding an upside-down baby doll". The photograph was taken by Xiu Xiu frontman Jamie Stewart. He met the photo's subject, a prostitute, at a gay cruising spot in Hanoi, Vietnam, and paid the man to take photos with the baby. The original release was printed with an orange rectangle covering the man's penis, as the distributor told the band that only a tenth of the stores would carry the album without the censor. The rectangle censor was based on Todd Solondz's Storytelling, and Stewart was fine with it since "the point of the photo was him and not his dick". The vinyl reissue went uncensored, and the label (Absolutely Kosher) threatened to take their business elsewhere if the manufacturer did not want to print the cover.

Content

The track "Sad Pony Guerrilla Girl" is a reworking of a song by Stewart's previous band Ten In The Swear Jar (XITSJ), called just "Sad Girl", which first appeared on their 1999 album My Very Private Map. "Pink City" also has its roots in a two-part song from XITSJ's unreleased album Eat Death Orphans!, which was eventually published in 2003's Accordion Solo!

Plot

IG is an action movie which Suresh Gopi dons the role of I.G. Durga Prasad. He is the head of Traffic Police. One day during his duty time he takes into custody a gang of criminals who involved in hawala transactions. Chief Minister calls a meeting to ascertain the source of the money. Actually the money is intended to terrorist activities. Knowing the serious situation, Chief Minister orders to form an Anti Terrorists Squad.

I.G.Durga Prasad is the leader of the squad. Once in a week he has to report the developments to the CM. It is at this time an allegation comes out that I.G is harassing some fellows who are suspected to be encouraging the terrorists. Many persons in the department itself are against him. Even under the heavy pressure he do not give up the enquiry. He tries his level best to put an end to the activities of terrorists. Finally he finds that his own younger brother, Vinod, is one among the terrorist gang in Kerala. He kills his brother with his mother`s permission and puts an end to the terrorist rampage in Kerala.He is honoured.
