Jerry Vale
Jerry Vale (born Genaro Louis Vitaliano; July 8, 1930 – May 18, 2014) was an Italian-Americansinger and actor. During the 1950s and 1960s, Vale reached the top of the pop charts with his interpretations of romantic ballads, many of which he sang in Italian.
The crooner showed his love of Italian music with his albums, I Have But One Heart (1962) and Arrivederci, Roma (1963), full of Italian standards such as "Amore, Scusami", "Ciao, Ciao, Bambina", "Arrivederci, Roma", and "O Sole Mio". His renditions of "Volare", "Innamorata (Sweetheart)", and "Al di là" became classic Italian-American songs.
Biography
Early years
Genaro Louis Vitaliano was born in the Bronx, N.Y., to Italian immigrant parents, and grew up in the Bronx Italian American community. In high school, to earn money, Vale took a job shining shoes in a barbershop, singing while he worked. His boss liked the sound so well that he paid for music lessons for the boy. Vale started singing in high school musicals and at a local nightclub. Still a teenager, he left school to work in a factory as an oiler alongside his father.
A Man Without Love
"A Man Without Love" was the British entry in the Eurovision Song Contest 1966, performed in English by Kenneth McKellar.
The song is a ballad, with McKellar comparing a man without love and a man with love. He explains that a man without love is "only half a man, this nothing", and a man "with love is everything in life".
For the performance of the song in Luxembourg, McKellar wore the traditional Scottish kilt.
"A Man Without Love" peaked at no. 30 in the UK Singles Chart in March 1966.
It was performed eighteenth and last on the night, following Ireland's Dickie Rock with "Come Back to Stay". At the close of voting, it had received eight points (five from Ireland and three from Luxembourg), placed ninth in a field of 18 (the worst placing for the United Kingdom until 1978.
It was succeeded as British representative at the 1967 contest by Sandie Shaw with "Puppet on a String".

Quando m'innamoro
"Quando M'innamoro" is a 1968 Italian song written by Daniele Pace, Mario Panzeri and Roberto Livraghi and sung with a double performance by Anna Identici and by The Sandpipers at the 1968 Sanremo Music Festival, in which it came 6th. With English lyrics by Barry Mason, the song was recorded as "A Man Without Love" by Engelbert Humperdinck, who had a UK hit with it, and by Sergio Franchi, among others.
Humperdinck's version was used in the 2005 filmRomance & Cigarettes.
In Spanish the song was sung as Cuando me enamoro in Japanese as Ai no hana saku toki (愛の花咲くとき), and in French as Comment te dire. The song has been covered by artists including Ray Conniff, Julio Iglesias, Lionel Hampton, Emilio Pericoli, Gigliola Cinquetti and Andrea Bocelli.
In Swedish, the song has been sung as Före min tid (Before my time) by Knut Agnred as a part of the comedy musical Lyckad nedfrysning av herr Moro (Successful freezing of Mr Moro), performed 1994-95 by Galenskaparna and After Shave. Lyrics by Claes Eriksson.
