Good is the first album recorded by the Boston based alternative rock trio Morphine. It was originally released in 1992 on the Accurate label, and then re-released by Rykodisc in 1993.

Summum bonum

Summum bonum is a Latin expression meaning "the highest good", which was introduced by Cicero, to correspond to the Idea of the Good in ancient Greek philosophy. The summum bonum is generally thought of as being an end in itself, and at the same time containing all other goods. The term was used in medieval philosophy and in Kantianism, to describe the ultimate importance, the singular and overriding end which human beings ought to pursue. In the Thomist synthesis of Aristotelianism and Christianity, the highest good is usually defined as the life of the righteous and/or the life led in communion with God and according to God's precepts.

Plato and Aristotle

Plato's The Republic argued that, “In the world of knowledge the idea of good appears last of all, and is seen...to be the universal author of all things beautiful and right”. Silent contemplation was the route to appreciation of the Idea of the Good.

Aristotle in his Nichomachean Ethics accepted that the target of human activity, “Must be the 'Good', that is, the supreme good.”, but challenged Plato's Idea of the Good with the pragmatic question: “Will one who has had a vision of the Idea itself become thereby a better doctor or general?”. However, arguably at least, Aristotle's concept of the unmoved mover owed much to Plato's Idea of the Good.

Good Worldwide Inc., is a United States-based company with offices in Los Angeles, CA, New York, NY, and Seattle, WA that promotes, connects, and reports on individuals, businesses, and non-profits. Good produces a website, a quarterly magazine, online videos, and events. The content covers a variety of topics, including the environment, education, urban planning, design, food, politics, culture, lifestyle, technology, and health. Good Worldwide Inc. is the consolidation of originally separate brands: Reason Pictures, Good Magazine, and Good Digital, in partnership with Causes, a Facebook/MySpace app promoting donations of time and money to charities and non-profits; Goodrec and Govit, an application that connects US citizens with their elected representatives. Good Worldwide Inc. is made up of three organizations: Good/Media, Good/Community and Good/Corps.

Good Media

Good/Media produces an online news site, www.good.is quarterly print magazine, Good Magazine. The magazine was started in 2006. The website receives about 10.1 MM unique visitors to its website each month. In December 2015 most of its editors were fired. The firings were "for strategic reasons" to shift Good's focus to its social network. Eight former Good Magazine editors and writers raised funds on Kickstarter to create the one-shot magazine Tomorrow before going their separate ways.

Idea

In philosophy, ideas are usually construed as mental representational images of some object. Ideas can also be abstract concepts that do not present as mental images. Many philosophers have considered ideas to be a fundamental ontological category of being. The capacity to create and understand the meaning of ideas is considered to be an essential and defining feature of human beings. In a popular sense, an idea arises in a reflexive, spontaneous manner, even without thinking or serious reflection, for example, when we talk about the idea of a person or a place. A new or original idea can often lead to innovation."

Etymology

The word idea comes from Greek ἰδέα idea "form, pattern," from the root of ἰδεῖν idein, "to see."

Innate and adventitious ideas

One view on the nature of ideas is that there exist some ideas (called innate ideas) which are so general and abstract that they could not have arisen as a representation of any object of our perception, but rather were in some sense always present. These are distinguished from adventitious ideas which are images or concepts which are accompanied by the judgment that they are caused or occasioned by an external object.

Idea (genus)

Idea is a genus of butterflies known as Tree Nymphs or Paper butterflies. The member species are concentrated around southeast Asia. See Sevenia for the genus of African tree nymphs.

Idea (TV special)

Idea was a television special starring the Bee Gees with Brian Auger and The Trinity, Julie Driscoll and Lil Lindfors. It was aired on 11 December 1968 on Zweites Deutsches Fernsehen (ZDF). The TV special was produced by Michèle Arnaud and directed by Jean Christophe Averti

Background

On 12 September 1968, the Bee Gees flew to Brussels and spent two weeks recording a television show directed by Jean Christophe Averti to promote their album Idea on French television. It features the guest appearances by Brian Auger and The Trinity, Julie Driscoll and Lil Lindfors. Swedish singer Lil Lindfors performed "Words" in her native language. The music videos looks simplistic and at times rather comical, the Bee Gees performed the songs from Horizontal and Idea (1968). The special effects on "Indian Gin and Whisky Dry" to make it appear that the Bee Gees are bouncing up and down in the glasses. On "I Started a Joke" features a floating question marks.

During the Bee Gees' stay in Brussels, the Belgian police would not allow their limousine to stop outside the hotel, The Metropole, due to a fashion show held there by French pop star Johnny Hallyday's wife Sylvie Vartan. Maurice's leg was injured as he attempted to get out of the car, leading to a formal complaint being filed with a chief of police by Robert Stigwood (Stigwood was also the manager of the Bee Gees).

Sugar (Stanley Turrentine album)

Sugar is an album by jazz saxophonist Stanley Turrentine, his first recorded for the CTI Records label following his long association with Blue Note, featuring performances by Turrentine with Freddie Hubbard, George Benson, Ron Carter, and Billy Kaye with Lonnie Liston Smith added on the title track and Butch Cornell and Richard "Pablo" Landrum on the other two tracks on the original release. The CD rerelease added a live version of the title track recorded at the Hollywood Palladium in 1971.

Reception

The album is one of Turrentines best received and was greeted with universal acclaim on release and on subsequent reissues. The Allmusic review by Thom Jurek awarded the album 4½ stars and states "If jazz fans are interested in Turrentine beyond the Blue Note period — and they should be — this is a heck of a place to listen for satisfaction". The All About Jazz review by David Rickert states "Seldom does a group of musicians click on all levels and rise into the stratosphere, but this is one such record, a relic from a time when jazz was going through growing pains but still spawning some interesting projects. Turrentine was one of the lucky few who made his crowning achievement during this time".
