A Doll's House

A Doll's House (Bokmål: Et dukkehjem; also translated as A Doll House) is a three-act play in prose by Henrik Ibsen. It premiered at the Royal Theatre in Copenhagen, Denmark, on 21 December 1879, having been published earlier that month.

The play is significant for its critical attitude toward 19th-century marriage norms. It aroused great controversy at the time, as it concludes with the protagonist, Nora, leaving her husband and children because she wants to discover herself. Ibsen was inspired by the belief that "a woman cannot be herself in modern society," since it is "an exclusively male society, with laws made by men and with prosecutors and judges who assess feminine conduct from a masculine standpoint." Its ideas can also be seen as having a wider application: Michael Meyer argued that the play's theme is not women's rights, but rather "the need of every individual to find out the kind of person he or she really is and to strive to become that person." In a speech given to the Norwegian Association for Women's Rights in 1898, Ibsen insisted that he "must disclaim the honor of having consciously worked for the women's rights movement," since he wrote "without any conscious thought of making propaganda," his task having been "the description of humanity."

A Doll's House is a 1973 Franco-British film directed by Joseph Losey, based on the play by Henrik Ibsen. It was screened at the 1973 Cannes Film Festival, but wasn't entered into the main competition. It was one of two film versions of Ibsen's play released almost simultaneously; the other stars Claire Bloom and Anthony Hopkins. In the United States, it premiered on the ABC television network.

Plot

The main character of this film is Nora Helmer, a simple woman married to a working man, the straight but authoritarian Torvald. Years before, they married out of love. Now, between Nora's desire for freedom and Torvald's strictness, serious sexual friction is threatening their relationship, including actions from their past which could lead to tragedy.

Dollhouse

A dollhouse or doll's house is a toy home made in miniature. For the last century, dollhouses have primarily been the domain of children but their collection and crafting is also a hobby for many adults. The term dollhouse is used commonly in the United States and Canada. In the UK (United Kingdom) the term dolls' house or dollshouse is used.

Today's dollhouses trace their history back about four hundred years to the baby house display cases of Europe, which showed idealized interiors. Smaller dollhouses with more realistic exteriors appeared in Europe in the 18th century. Early dollhouses were all handmade, but following the Industrial Revolution and World War II, they were increasingly mass-produced and became more standardized and affordable. Dollhouses can range from simple boxes stacked together used as rooms for play, up to multimillion-dollar structures displayed in museums.

Contemporary children's play dollhouses are mostly in 1:18 (or 2/3") scale, while 1:12 (or 1") scale is common for dollhouses made for adult collectors.

Doll's House is a Bangladeshi television drama serial written by Abul Kalam Azad, Chonchol and Tazin Ahemd. The serial ran on ATN Bangla from 2007 to 2009, with 380 episodes in all. It is set in modern-day Dhaka. It stars Suborna Mustafa, Shompa Reza, Mita Chowdhury, Wahida Mollick Jolly, Chitralekha Guha, Traupa Majumder, Intekhab Dinar, Bonna Mirza, Farhana Mithu, Bijori Barkatullah, Fazlur Rahman Babu, Shanjida Priti, Shojol, Humayun Faridi, Tushar Khan and the co-writer himself, Abul Kalam Azad.
