A Day to Remember
A Day to Remember (often abbreviated ADTR) is an American rock band from Ocala, Florida, founded in 2003 by guitarist Tom Denney and drummer Bobby Scruggs. They are known for their unusual amalgamation of metalcore and pop punk. The band currently consists of vocalist Jeremy McKinnon, rhythm guitarist Neil Westfall, bassist Joshua Woodard, percussion and drummer Alex Shelnutt and lead guitarist Kevin Skaff.
Signing with Indianola Records for their first album, And Their Name Was Treason (2005), Scruggs was replaced by Shelnutt in 2006. Later that year the band recorded For Those Who Have Heart (2007) for Victory Records. They embarked on several tours of the UK and U.S. and played at several festivals, before recording and releasing Homesick (2009). While promoting Homesick on tour, Denney was replaced by Skaff. Soon after releasing their next album, What Separates Me from You (2010), the band went on a worldwide tour to promote it. Beginning in 2011, the band has been involved in a lawsuit with Victory Records over their recording contract. In October 2013 the band was given the right to self-release a new album until a final verdict is reached. They released their fifth album, Common Courtesy, the same month.
A Day to Remember discography
The discography of American rock band A Day to Remember consists of five studio albums, three video albums, three extended plays, and eight singles. The band signed to Indianola in February 2005 and released their debut album And Their Name Was Treason a few months later. Their second album, For Those Who Have Heart, was released in January 2007 and peaked at number 17 on the Heatseekers Album chart in the US; a re-release charted at number 43 on the Independent Albums chart in the US. Released in February 2009, Homesick charted at number 21 on the Billboard 200 chart and at number 1 on the Independent Albums chart. From the album, only the "Have Faith in Me" single charted; at number 40 on the Alternative Songs chart. Second single "Downfall of Us All" and album track "If It Means a Lot to You" were both certified Gold by the RIAA for 500,000 downloads each. Fourth album What Separates Me from You (2010) debuted at number 11 on the Billboard 200 and its lead single "All I Want" peaked at number 12 on Alternative Songs. Fifth album Common Courtesy (2013) was first released only digitally due a legal label dispute; a physical release followed later.
A Day to Remember (1953 film)
A Day to Remember is a 1953 British comedy drama film directed by Ralph Thomas and starring an ensemble cast including Stanley Holloway, Donald Sinden and Bill Owen. The darts team of a London public house go on a day trip to Boulogne-sur-Mer in France.
Plot
On the eve of their visit to France the members of the Hand & Flower pub darts team gather for a drink. The day trip is being organised by one of their regulars who is a travel agent. For some of the team it is their first ever trip abroad, while for others it is the first time they have returned to France since the war. One of the team has developed a plan to buy watches in France and smuggle them back into Britain to sell at a profit. Another, Jim Carver, is going through a rocky patch with his fiancee, who he suspects considers him to be boring and plain.
The following day the group meet at London Victoria and catch the boat train to Boulogne. Once they have landed in France, despite the insistence of their unofficial leader the pub's landlord that they stick together, Jim Carver departs to visit a farm where he had been involved in heavy fighting during 1944 when British troops had arrived to liberate France. He takes some flowers to the cemetery where his comrade is buried. He then meets a young woman, Martine, who he first met eight years before, who invites him to have lunch with her family on the farm. They immediately strike up a chemistry, which his relationship with his fiancee in England lacks. However his newfound friend is also engaged to a local lawyer.
Pension tax simplification
Pension tax simplification, often simply referred to as "pension simplification" and taking effect from A-day on 6 April 2006 was a policy announced in 2004 by the Labour government to rationalise the British tax system as applied to pension schemes. The aim was to reduce the complicated patchwork of legislation built-up by successive administrations which were seen as acting as a barrier to the public when considering retirement planning. The government wanted to encourage retirement provision by simplifying the previous eight tax regimes into one single regime for all individual and occupational pensions.
Main changes
Broadly the new regime allows considerable freedom in the tax relievable contributions that may be made to pension schemes, and the assets in which they may be invested. It also however caps the size of tax favoured pension fund that may be accumulated by an individual. This 'lifetime allowance' was set at £1.6M for 2007–08. Funds accumulated in excess of the lifetime allowance are subject to a tax charge of 55%. Transitional protection provisions were made for individuals who had already accumulated pension funds in excess of this amount.
5 A Day
5 A Day is any of various national campaigns in countries such as the USA, the United Kingdom and Germany, to encourage the consumption of at least five portions of fruit and vegetables each day, following a recommendation by the World Health Organization that individuals consume "a minimum of 400g of fruit and vegetables per day (excluding potatoes and other starchy tubers)."
Australia
Go for 2 & 5 is the equivalent campaign in Australia, in which adults are said to need to eat at least two serves of fruit and five serves of vegetables each day. A "standard serve of fruit" is 150 grams of fresh fruit, whereas a "standard serve of vegetables" is 75 grams.
Canada
In Canada, the Canadian Produce Marketing Association (CPMA), the Heart and Stroke Foundations Health Check Program, and the Canadian Cancer Society have partnered together to create the Fruits and Veggies - Mix it up! campaign, encouraging Canadian families to eat more healthily. The campaign focuses on easy ways to eat healthy where ever and whenever you can. The CPMA is a not-for-profit organization representing over 700 international and Canadian companies which are now responsible for 90% of fresh fruit and vegetable sales in Canada. It is funded through voluntary membership, as well as various services, activities, and sponsorship programs. The Heart and Stroke Foundation uses a team of registered dietitians that provide expertise when developing healthy eating information, tools, and resources. The Health Check symbol is placed only on foods meeting the nutrient criteria based on the recommendations of Canada’s Food Guide, making it easy for shoppers to choose healthier options at the supermarket.
$40 a Day
$40 a Day is a Food Network show hosted by Rachael Ray. In each episode, Rachael takes a one-day trip to an American, Canadian, or European city with only US$40 to spend on food. While touring the city, she finds restaurants to go to (often based on local recommendations), and usually manages to fit three meals and some sort of snack or after-dinner drink into her small budget.
The show premiered on April 1, 2002, five months after the debut of 30 Minute Meals, making it her second show on the Food Network. Some clips are sometimes used in Ray's later series, Rachael Ray's Tasty Travels. Another Food Network series, Giada's Weekend Getaways starring Giada De Laurentiis, is similar in format. In 2010, The Travel Channel began airing reruns of the show. As of 2013, the show is no longer in reruns on the Travel Channel.
Details
According to Ray, visiting a fast food restaurant, particularly those of national chains, is considered cheating (she says so explicitly in the Orlando episode). On occasion, smaller sit-down restaurant chains (such as Bahama Breeze in the Las Vegas episode, or Bongos in the South Beach episode) are visited. Generally, non-food items and non-food-related activities are not included in her budget.
AT&T Team USA Soundtrack
AT&T Team USA Soundtrack is a sporting compilation by various artists, created for the 2008 Summer Olympics, in Beijing. On the album appear singers and bands like Lady Antebellum, 3 Doors Down, Nelly, Queen Latifah, Chris Brown, Sheryl Crow, Kate Voegele, and Taylor Swift. The album consist of 15 English tracks and one Spanish track by Luis Fonsi. The album was released on the USA iTunes Store on August 7, 2008, and can be accessed through its official website.
