186th Air Refueling Wing

The 186th Air Refueling Wing is a unit of the Mississippi Air National Guard stationed at Key Field Air National Guard Base, Mississippi. The 153d Air Refueling Squadron, assigned to the Wing's 186th Operations Group, was established on 18 August 1939 as the 153d Observation Squadron, one of the 29 National Guard observation squadrons formed before World War II.

The group was first organized in October 1962 as the 186th Tactical Reconnaissance Group. It served in the reconbnaissance role until 1992, when it received Boeing KC-135 Stratotankers and converted to an air refueling mission.

Overview

The 186th Air Refueling Wing provides worldwide air refueling support to combat commands of the United States Air Force, and to other United States military forces and the military forces of allied nations flying the KC-135 Stratotanker. With over 1,200 officers and airmen, the 186th is made up of mostly traditional guardsmen, but about one third of the members are full-time air technicians or active Guardsmen or reservists. The 186th also supports a Fairchild RC-26B Metroliner aircraft, modified to conduct intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance mission.

185th Air Refueling Wing

The 185th Air Refueling Wing is a unit of the Iowa Air National Guard, stationed at Colonel Bud Day Field, Sergeant Bluff, Iowa. If activated to federal service, the Wing is gained by the United States Air Force Air Mobility Command.

Mission

The mission of the 185th Wing is to provide air refueling and mobility sustainment in support of the global mission of the Air Force. As a community-based organization the wing and its subordinate units are also tasked to support the state of Iowa in the event of a state emergency.

History

The wing was first organized on 1 October 1962 as the 185th Tactical Fighter Group as a single headquarters for the 174th Tactical Fighter Squadron and its support units. This reorganization nearly doubled the authorized personnel of the Air National Guard at Sioux City Municipal Airport to over 800 officers and airmen. This era would also mark the longest continuous period the group fles one model aircraft. The 185th flew the North American F-100 Super Sabre from its establishment until 1977, a period of 15 years.

940th Wing

The 940th Wing (940 WG) is an Air Reserve Component (ARC) of the United States Air Force. It is assigned to the Tenth Air Force, Air Force Reserve Command, stationed at Beale Air Force Base, California.

The 940 WG is a Command and Control, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance wing, with associate units assigned which are gained by the 9th Reconnaissance Wing, Air Combat Command, Pacific Air Forces and the Air Force Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Agency if mobilized.

The 940th supports units assigned to the 655th Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Group (ISRG), Wright-Patterson AFB, OH, and a unit assigned to the 622nd Civil Engineer Group, Dobbins ARB, GA. Those units are the 50th Intelligence Squadron, the 38th Intelligence Squadron, and the 583rd Red Horse Squadron respectively.

Overview

The 940th Wing is responsible for the stand up and total force integration of the Air Force Reserve Command's newest multi-mission wing, including command & control, intelligence and reconnaissance forces. This Wing is the only Reserve Wing that operates the RQ-4 Global Hawk; this is done through the 13th Reconnaissance Squadron.
